Nearly every record-high temperature reported over the last few days in the Los Angeles area are from weather stations “compromised by heat sources and heat sinks,” according to a veteran meteorologist.
“In my opinion, the data from these stations is worthless,” California-based meteorologist Anthony Watts wrote on his blog Watts Up With That.
That’s not to say Los Angeles wasn’t scorching hot. Temperatures in much of greater Los Angeles were in the triple digits, according to the National Weather Service.
On the contrary, what Watts claims is that artificial heat sources and sinks produce localized heat around weather stations, adding the few degrees necessary to qualify as records. In general, cities are warmer than surrounding countryside owing to the urban heat island effect.
For example, downtown Los Angeles reported a daily record high temperature of 108 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday. Watts, however, noted the weather station was on top of a parking garage surrounded by vehicles. The weather station was relocated to the University of Southern California (USC) campus in 1999 where meteorologists said it would be less prone to extreme swings, but Watts said that station’s had problems in the past. more here

He just can’t understand why it’s so hot, because he’s not educated on current weather.Just as the East Froze this Winter, we will likely see anomolies as well.

96 degrees outside thermometer in the Adirondacks on 7/5, it was hot, and 50 degrees overnight on 7/6. On 7/7 it WAS 72 degrees during the day.
Amazing, mountain weather…and averages, a 46 degree delta.
So let me guess without reading the article: the weather stations were wrong, so the numbers were revised UPWARD?
doesn’t matter what temps are recorded … not until anyone can tell us what the optimized temp should be … anywhere, at any time

I’ve been studying this strange phenomenon and have come to the following conclusion. It starts to warm up in the spring. In the summer, my study shows it gets hotter but begins to cool come fall. Winter it seems to get the coldest. Then a new cycle starts in spring again. Been happening as long as I can remember.
The thermometer in my back yard said exactly what the weather was showing on the internet and
TV. It was 112 and miserable.
Gov. Brown was in LA for a few days, ate at mostly Mexican Restaurants, and the natural result is a spike in heat recordings at the various places he visited.
I think all the buildings have a lot to do with it too, particularly the lack of circulation. It isn’t that it’s hotter but that the air doesn’t move.
Last Thursday and Friday were an unusually nasty & hot day couple of days for SoCal, even here in San Diego.
LA suffered blackouts and brownouts.
Guess they need a couple more windmills…

It helps to think of these “weather stations” as Climate Change gaslights, to be turned up or down as needed. Mostly up.
My thermometer registered 350 degrees yesterday. Just because it was in my oven doesn’t mean that Global Warming isn’t real….
