Baltimore: Crime? What Crime?

American Thinker:

Baltimore police ‘stopped noticing crime’ after Freddie Gray riots.

A remarkable article in USA Today confirms what common sense and intelligent observation have told us for years.  Immediately following the Baltimore race riots that ensued after Freddie Gray was found dead in the back of a police van, Baltimore cops began to “stop noticing crime.”  They still responded swiftly to calls for help.  But the police force turned a blind eye to crimes being committed right in front of them.

The analysis by USA Today examined millions of Baltimore police records and determined that a shocking rise in crime occurred that was directly related to a fall in “on view” reports of crime by police.

“Immediately upon the riot, policing changed in Baltimore, and it changed very dramatically,” says Donald Norris, an emeritus professor at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, who reviewed USA TODAY’s analysis.  “The outcome of that change in policing has been a lot more crime in Baltimore, especially murders, and people are getting away with those murders.”  MORE

  1. There’s a reason my family and I don’t go to the Inner Harbor, the Aquarium, an Orioles Game, or Fell’s Point anymore.

Used to live there as a young person and loved the museums, churches, libraries, the Market, and just walking around. Nobody would bother you if you knew the turf and people.

The hospitals were first class but now you need armed guards to go to your car or be in a waiting room.

Now the crime is done because it’s just another entitlement. Thanks Dems for screwing the black community and the white comunity.

  2. Look at the history of the police in this country. When police were first implemented, their goal wasn’t to stop crime, it was to respond to complaints about crime.

This switched when local governments realized they could use the police proactively to EARN REVENUE.

This is when most of the animosity and frustration with the police started. Cops were now inserting then into people’s business, FINANCIALLY.

It would appear that Baltimore has come full circle if their police are no longer proactively looking for crime.
