WaTimes: The White House is expected to announce a second round of security clearance revocations for former government officials in the near future.
“We’re continuing to review,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Aug. 22. Mrs. Sanders said a White House working group has been set up to look at “the overall security clearance process and who maintains those, and whether or not those are needed across the board within government.”
White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly, a former Marine Corps general, is taking part in the review.
The review has been ongoing since the Trump administration cut off the security clearance of former CIA Director John O. Brennan Aug. 17. The former CIA chief lost his access to government secrets after taking to the cable news airways for months attacking President Trump, calling his behavior “treasonous” and suggesting he was a Russian agent. The revocation prompted a backlash from a group of mostly liberal former intelligence and policy officials who said the government had violated Mr. Brennan’s First Amendment rights.
The next round of security clearance revocations is expected to be announced in the next two weeks. A review has been underway within the National Security Council to examine other former officials and their access to classified information.
The review involves three presidential executive orders that together authorize security clearances and access to classified information. more here
In 1966 A background check, done by the Navy, the cost was $10,000 at that time. I got a Top Secret Cryptographic Clearance. They checked back to age 14. I was 22 at the time. I heard from many people about inquiries made, including my current boss at the time. I am certain it expired when I was Honorably Discharged.
My vote for next revoked SC is Evelyn Farkas. That would be a gut punch to MSNBC.
Once again, it seems to me as though the DC swamp has everything backwards. I think prudence would dictate an automatic revocation of the security clearance of ANY political appointee in the “security”/investigatory realms, particularly in these poisonous political times. Clearances could be reissued if circumstances dictate a need. It appears pretty clear that everyone else – outside the swamp, that is – loses theirs when their jobs change.
“…an automatic revocation of the security clearance of ANY political appointee in the “security”/investigatory realms…”
Funny you should say that. Sally Yates is now employed by the King & Spalding law firm, as head of their “Government Investigations” division. Pull the plug on her now, Trump. Farkas, you just got a short reprieve.
terrific graphic!
Thank you kindly!
Let’s keep it simple. The day you are out you lose your clearance, unless the incoming guy requests your assistance.
I carried a Top Secret with AEC attachment during my career years.
The FBI even went back to when I was 7 years old and got into a rock throwing incident!
Very thorough and proud to have had it.
