Argument over a dirty mattress leads to fatality

DC: A father and son shot their neighbor to death after the threesome got in a dispute over a mattress that had been thrown out into the trash.

John Miller and his son Michael Miller shot and killed 37-year-old Aaron Howard in Abilene, Texas, on Sept. 1, according to the Star-Telegram. The footage was not published until the Star-Telegram’s Thursday report.

“It’s been going on for a couple days, and it culminated in today’s violence,” Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge said at a news conference after the incident, explaining that the shooting had followed a disagreement between the neighbors over trash disposal.

“We had thrown out a twin mattress in a dumpster in our alley a few days before the shooting,” Howard’s common-law wife, Kara Box, told the Star-Telegram.  MORE

  1. Poor little article here- no one is replying. I’ll put on my RBG gloves and see what I can share.
    “dirty mattress”
This might have been legitimate- were the tags still on the mattress?
I guess I should be more serious about this. And there is a very important lesson to be learned from this most unfortunate incident. I look at this as a sort of Public Service Announcement type of thing, and I know this site is bound by california law to post them. But they don’t go unappreciated and I learned a big lesson from this one. It has created a bit of a problem though, but as soon as I figure out how to get my old mattress in the washing machine, I’m going to toss it over my neighbors fence. I figure it will be OK, as long as it is clean. Always happy to learn new things! Thanx for the household hint!

  2. MJA- we have to haul them to the dump ourselves around here. But with box springs- you can get quite a bit of use out of them as a ‘drag-behind’ for leveling tilled fields and gravel driveways. The only thing the city or county does around here is raise taxes.

If anyone had to die, I’m glad it was the mouthy guy. Father and son will now join the prison weight-loss program.

So just because the guy was mouthy and the fat *uck holding a gun with his fat *uck son with a shot gun hanging over his shoulder needed to be shot? I don’t care about the fat part, they better be worried about their ass. I hope bubba or Tyrone is their cell mate. They get white meat for a change.

  4. Dumb all the way around, but…
The old dude has a legit self-defense, the young, bigger guy had a bat, and he was warned.
The son is straight up murder, as he shot after his dad had already done so.

  5. Sad. Very sad. Sometimes, when you walk around with your cap gun six shooters on your hips, swaggering about killing someone, shit like this happens.

Are there winners here? I only see losers. ….Lady in Red

  6. Knowing the end, I didn’t finish it. Saw enough.

All three were dumbasses. No need for any part being played here. The gun is not supposed to enforce your argument to make people do your will. That’s how liberals think of it. Like they think they’re in a badly written movie where this is normal.

And the big guy could have walked away at any time and not *ucked with two guns being held by other unstable people.

This is totally an ego thing on all sides. Totally avoidable.

If the father and son don’t spend considerable time behind bars, I will be disappointed.

Did the wife call police when she saw the guns come out? If not, that’s stupid on her, too.

Had to tell my sons one night when a neighbor from two blocks away was acting hostile and they wanted to get the Glocks out.

My advice that they took: “Any situation where you feel the need to get a gun, call the police about the problem and get them involved.”

It will go much better for you if something ever does come to shooting.
