Military.com: This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country’s service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to “Veterans Day” in order to account for all veterans in all wars.
We celebrate and honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. MORE
God Bless all who risk everything for the greatest country the world has ever known.
My grandparents called it Armistice Day until they died.
The military should be used to clean up the corruption in THIS country not bogus wars fomented by international bankers.
As a veteran let me be the first to thank all the veterans of all the wars America has fought since the American Revolution all the way up to the current War on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. And thank you for your service, especially to my dad (USAF 1947-50) and his 3 brothers (World war 2), my mom’s older brother (Marines WW2) my father in law (Korea), my best friend who served 30 yrs. in the Navy as an AW (anti submarine warfare) and retired as a Senior CPO), all my friends who served in Vietnam, you know who you are, good men all and my nephews who served in the War on terror after 2001. The older I get the more proud I am of my 3 yrs. in the Navy from 1972-75.
Veterans and current military, thank you for your service.
When they say “Why we fight”?
I offer up a bit of history, relative then and very relative today:

Thank you to all who served and still serving!
God bless America!
And special thanks to all the war-injured Veterans who persevered and went on to successful civilian careers in spite of their hardships.
And thanks to all the Vet’s at IOTW whose wisdom fills these pages with comments worth reading!
Thanks to all who have served or are still serving.
Condolences to the families of the fallen.
Big lump in throat moment. Cannot say thank you enough to all you veterans. Special hat tip to family, friends, complete strangers who supported us without any fanfare.
Words cannot truly express the Thanks! I have for the men and women that have formed, served, and protected our great nation. I salute you one and all.

If we want to honor our Veterans, we need to keep this country from going Socialist. If you’re on Twitter you should read Rob ONeill’s page today, and the comments.
There was a documentary on the Malmedy Massacre on PBS yesterday. Well worth watching if you can find it.
Another instance of miscarriage of justice.
Thank you Veterans….You are our true American Heros!!!!!!!
Happy Veteran’s day! I think it is so cool that we have a national holiday to honor all those Vets who keep our furry friends happy and healthy! But what is with all those damn American flags and that funky bugle music??? – Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
