The Tsuanami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for all of Cook Inlet and coastal areas in southern Alaska. Officials are urging residents near the Cook Inlet to seek higher ground immediately.
Local TV stations are off the air, phone lines have also been cut off after shaking struck the area. At least one aftershock has been felt, with officials warning that there will be more. Power is reportedly out in Wasilla as well.
There’s been a full ground stop ordered for any planes heading for Anchorage. read more
Hopefully this means the “Big One” is one closer to wiping half of California’s voters off the face of the earth.
Nice Rose colored glasses Pollyanna.
G-d bless them.
Hopefully it only kills the meth heads.
Rock & Roll!
The earthquake woke up my mother in law in Fairbanks. She said lamps and things were moving back and forth slightly. She’s even notice some motion from the aftershocks.
There is nothing fun about being in an earthquake. I still have friends up there, they are cleaning up a mess right now. Hey Lisl, are you OK up there?
CNN has so far been unable to uncover any link to Trump.
Yeah, I lived in Anchorage (Ft. Richardson actually) for the Good Friday quake in 1964. Remember the tsunami hitting Seward. Hope everyone gets to high ground.
Holy crap earthquakes sure feel different in the 11th floor v. at home! The tall buildings are designed to sway and sway mine did!!! But I had people around me and that helped a lot, surely in part because people were reassuring each other and as the second one was finishing someone said, “OK, it’s almost done, we’ve made it through,” which really was comforting. Deep inside I felt it would be all right for us, but it was, I’ll be honest, really scary ’cause the swaying is fairly extreme. Still, I prayed and thanked God for the amazing engineers who came up with this way to make tall buildings safer.
First thing I did after was go get my son from school – I thought it might be packed but it wasn’t too bad, and I got there quickly. Getting home, though, ten minutes away took an hour and a half. The roads are packed, though I’m not really sure what’s up on the particular stretch unless people are just taking it super slow because there is a lot of infrastructure damage being reported, including an on ramp on the Minnesota destroyed, sinkhole on Dimond and a twisted up road in the Mat-Su. My own house is still standing, thanks be to God, though the inside is basically a disaster. Guess what we’ll be doing this weekend?
The aftershocks are still hitting but in our house we’re in pretty good cheer – instinctive jerks when the shocks hit but then back to laughing. It’s just so good to be alive and together that really that’s all you can do, at least that’s how it is with me. And with comments such as @majorityofone’s, you can’t go wrong!
@joe6pak, you are so kind. Thank you for asking and thanks everyone for being such patriots and BFH, thanks for keeping this place running for us to come to. You lot are simply fabulous.
My brother lives in Anchorage and has reported no damage to his home, but does have a mess to clean up from pictures and other items on their walls falling. He said it was a heck of a way to wake up.
Didn’t Pres Trump open up some more Alaskan acreage for oil-drilling?
I have four questions, is it man made?. How can we milk that cow ?. Anybody? Al are you reading?. 😉
