Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Claims She Will Pay Interns ‘at Least’ $15 Per Hour

Breitbart: Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed on Twitter Tuesday night that she will pay her interns a minimum of $15 an hour.

“Time to walk the walk,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “Very few members of Congress actually pay their interns. We will be one of them.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s message came after her chief of staff told a Washington Post reporter on Tuesday that Ocasio-Cortez will pay her interns a minimum of $15 an hour.

After meeting “several” Capitol Hill staff members working as restaurant waitstaff at a Washington, DC, restaurant, the self-described Democratic Socialist— who is jockeying for a seat on the House Financial Services Committee— sent out a tweet Monday saying it “is a disgrace” that congressional staffers do not make a “living wage”:

“This is a disgrace. Congress of ALL places should raise [Members’ Representational Allowances] so we can pay staff an actual DC living wage,” she wrote. more here

  1. Calling out her colleagues before she’s sat in her new office.
I hope her voters are s stupid as she is, and keep her in office for many years to come.
She is worthy of many mocks.

  2. Bill Clinton paid his intern something special….I’d be willing to give her sum of that three times a week, but I’m gonna need some fluid rehab…..I still want $15 an hour to provide my services…..

  3. btw, who set themselves up as Wage Lord to declare $15 ‘an hour’ a ‘living wage’?

stupid terms, like ‘living wage’ are arbitrary & undefinable … therefore, are not really an argument for a rational discussion

… thank you for your time, now kindly sit down … & please, stop annoying the adults

  4. So she’s “jockeying for a seat on the House Financial Services Committee—“

You mean the same committee that Mad Maxie will Chair? Hell, why don’t they bust Corrine Brown out of prison and make it a trifecta of crooked, stupid and entertaining?

  5. Uh, yeah. As always, a holier than thou lib with another my-idea-your-money scheme. How bout this? Phuk you lib. Pay for it yourself. Leave me the hell alone. Dumb ass bitch. Move to Venezuela if you think socialism is a good idea. Move to Cuba if you think communism is the answer.

  6. She will get $480 per day. Since everyone has 2 jobs, she’ll stick with that standard and only allow for 4 hour work days to allow everyone time to pursue their second and third careers. We know she’s not going to pay taxes for herself or her interns, so we can strip that from the equation right away. On that coin, she can hire 7 interns, each 4 hours per day, and still have 60 bucks left over for herself! She gets the full $480 on Sunday if she allows her interns the day off.

  7. Congress members are given an allowance to run their offices. They also have several staff on board. I wonder if this simple minded twit who wants to be on the financial committee has bothered doing the math yet.

  8. I worked in DC for 36 years – never could afford to live there.
Lived in Calvert County, MD, and commuted (about an hour each way, depending on traffic). We even had guys in the shop who lived in (and commuted to and from) West Virginia! One guy lived in Pennsylvania. A slew of em lived out by Manassas and Front Royal, VA.

    $15/hr is a slave-wage in DC.
I think even crack-heads and winos make more than that.

But she should have to pay out of her pocket, not mine.
I think she should (in the interest of social fairness) divvy up her “salary” amongst her interns, aides, assistants, and other sycophants – leave the taxpayers out of it. She has a real opportunity to stand up for her beliefs!

But, sadly, she’ll prove herself to be just one more screaming fucking hypocrite taking up space and breathing valuable oxygen that a productive person could have breathed.

    Ah, well …

    izlamo delenda est …
