  1. As a kid, I raised a Siberian Husky and, of course, he would make bounding tracks in the deep snow (~30″). My family’s little female Siamese would leap after him into the snow holes. She couldn’t see over the top of them and after awhile would start crying to be rescued, shivering in the 18 degree cold. But her heart was in the right place. Not a lover of cats, but they do have their moments.

  2. Not exactly man’s best friend there, but rather creatures whose scratch can kill, who decimate neighborhood bird populations, whose selfishness requires a “kitty litter box” or they’ll go poop toxins in the neighbor’s flower garden – toxins btw that harm pregnant women.
Yea, let them frolic – they are the “other” white meat.

Been scratched many times, and I ain’t dead yet. Nor have I gotten any diseases from cats, and I have been around them for 70 years.

Of all the critical things to dislike and/or, be pissed off at, why do people dislike cats? It’s ignorant, 14th century thinking. Something I’d expect from a retard.

I guess if you think they are so toxic, you would not really consider them a substitute for chicken, then? Or would you?

Sometimes, I would like to see cat haters go one-on-one with one of the bigger cats. Then we’ll see who’s boss.

  4. I will not have a creature that shits in my house that I have to clean everyday.

If it’s an outdoor kat they become a target. I feed songbirds in my yard.

Living in a rural area many kittens are just dumped out. They kill pheasants and quail wantonly.

  5. Some of you guys are fuckin’ ignorant. Like that stupid pope who thought cats were agents of Satan and had them slaughtered. The result was a proliferation of rats and rat fleas that made the Black Death so deadly.

Here’s the deal on the cats and this toxoplasma gondii that they sometimes carry.

Cats can carry Toxoplasma gondii, a parasite that causes birth defects, miscarriages and death in people with weakened immune systems. The animals usually contract the disease by eating contaminated raw meat and small prey.

Expectant mothers are more vulnerable. Roughly 3,000 women transmit the infection to their fetuses each year, and a small percentage of newborns are born with serious eye or brain damage as a result. Some infants show no symptoms at birth, but develop vision loss and other health problems later in life. [note that it is a small percentage of newborns who get the infection].

As a precaution, experts say, pregnant women should never eat raw or undercooked meat — two major sources of toxoplasmosis. They should also avoid handling cats’ litter boxes, cover any outdoor sandboxes and wear gloves while gardening to minimize contact with droppings.

Giving up a pet is not necessary. An animal that is fed only canned or dried food and kept indoors poses little risk. And because the parasite is rarely carried on fur, casual contact is considered safe (NY Times).

So, the biggest contributors are raw and undercooked meat that women may consume when pregnant. If cats are kept indoors and eat only canned or dried food, the risks from cats is very low.

You say: selfishness requires a “kitty litter box” or they’ll go poop toxins in the neighbor’s flower garden.

Cats are selfish because they require a litter box? Is that more selfish than humans who require a toilet?

I don’t think “selfishness” describes either. So may I ask what you mean by “selfishness”?
