Survey: U.S. Military Tired of Iraq, Afghanistan’s ‘Occupation’

Breitbart: The vast majority of U.S. service members and veterans believe the American “occupation” of Iraq and Afghanistan has lasted long enough, but they still support the ongoing war on terror raging since October 2001, according to the results of a survey published this month.

Smithsonian Magazine conducted a survey of 922 veterans and 109 active duty military personnel last Veteran’s Days with the help of the Stars and Stripes newspaper and George Mason University.

Analysts asked the troops and veterans to respond to questions about national security and the military.

Smithsonian Magazine reports that after more than 17 years of the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan, 84 percent of the 1,031 service members and veterans surveyed agreed that the “occupations” have “been going on too long.”

“As far as we know, this survey was the first one to pose that question to current and former service members,” the magazine notes in its January edition.

“Their frustration is significant because they also voiced strong support for the war on terror generally, with 83 percent saying it should continue,” it adds.  more here

  1. We beat the stuffing out of the Germans, Italians, and Japanese and did it in four years!

How can anyone possibly justify 17 years? And exactly what has been accomplished?

If you’re not going to let our troops win, then DO NOT SEND THEM!!!

  2. Phukkum. What were they doing before we got there? Thy were killing each other. We show up, they started killing us. What will they do when we leave? They’ll do the whole world a huge favor and go back to killing each other. Phukkum.

  3. Old powerful elite men brainwash young studs with ideas of patriotism and “making the world safe for democracy” (a TOTAL crock of shit on many levels). The old powerful elite men then have access to more young women as well as getting rid of the threat of having the young studs turn on them because they finally realize what assholes they are and how they’ve been fooled. It’s an old game.

  4. PS: The old powerful elite men get rich by investing in companies that sell the weapons of war and then get Joe citizen to PAY FOR IT!! Not only THAT – – they create money out of NOTHING, then lend it to the U.S. government at interest which further indebts Joe Citizen. And if THAT isn’t enough they take their trillions of dollars and sink it into destroying the culture via Hollywood, “open” borders, muslim invasion, transgenderism, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

  6. Obama called Iraq the stupid war, and fully supported the war in Afghanistan.
As per usual that dipshit had it backward.

Afghanistan: Look at the map and you see desolate Afghanistan is landlocked. We have to drive supplies in via a highway through Pakistan. It has exactly zero resources. It’s people are what, maybe 95% illiterate?
    Why are we in Afghanistan???

Iraq: Iraq is the center of Mid-East civilization. The center. There are vast vast resources here. It’s people are generally literate and smart. There was some likelihood we could have brought their culture into the 21 Century.
While I always felt we should not invade Iraq, once we did I felt we should go all out to win and civilize the country. President Bush’s surge served to win the war in Iraq. Where hundreds of American troops (heroes all) were killed and maimed during the heat of the war, the fantastic military had somewhat purged the extreme violent behaviors. Few Americans were attacked in the last months of Bush’s last term. Pulling out of Iraq like Obama did was an atrocity for which he has not suffered even a fraction as much as he should.
To the degree we are in Iraq now, stabilizing this volatile region, President Trump is again doing the right thing.
