Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Kills Common Core

DC: Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday he will get rid of Common Core in the state and wants to have parents and teachers help implement a revised set of standards in 2020.

“Common Core has failed teachers, parents, and our children,” DeSantis wrote on Twitter Thursday. “That’s why I am issuing an Executive Order to eliminate Common Core in Florida. We will streamline standardized testing, make civics a priority in schools and increase the literacy rate.”

Common Core aimed to establish high academic standards in K-12 English and math.

Critics of Common Core said it was too rigid, confusing teaching methods for parents and takes away control from locals, according to Fox 13. DeSantis wants to implement a new plan, with the input of parents and teachers, in 2020.

“I told you I was going to do something about this,” DeSantis said at a press conference, WFTV reported.  MORE

  1. DeSantis is a phenom. I have complete confidence in his decisions. We had a really close call in Florida. Unbelievable that so many voters could be so stupid, nearly voting in a corrupt s’bag of identity politics and socialism.

  2. I’ve always thought that common core was developed so Democrats and their children could get passing grades.

Graduation rates would look rather bad for them if they didn’t have it.

  3. Howzaboutthat, an EO killed Common Core. TY Gov DeSantis.

Makes me wonder why 2-term Rick Scott couldn’t do this, or clean up Broward/PBC voter fraud, or remove Sheriff Israel post Parkland, or why he quietly approved in-state tuition for illegals.

Makes me wonder how he’ll fair in DC, after all governors are usually more effective for their constituents closer to home. I have a feeling Scott arrived late to DC so he’d have to take the office at the end of the corridor where he can lay low and hide.

  4. OMG Engelburka Engelburka you are so right! I don’t know how many times that Scott was on TV, during Parkland and so much more that I wanted to just strangle him. If I was next to him I would have kicked him straight in the ball yard. I hope he is at the end of the corridor right where he belongs.
