McConnell Says President Trump Will Sign Spending Bill — and Declare National Emergency

Breitbart:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Thursday that President Donald Trump will sign legislation to prevent a second partial government shutdown and declare a national emergency to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“He’s prepared to sign the bill, he will also be issuing a national emergency declaration at the same time,” McConnell said ahead of a Senate vote on a measure to keep the government running past the February 15 deadline.

The comprise measure keeps departments running through the fiscal year but without the $5.7 billion the president wanted for the border wall with Mexico.

Moments after McConnell’s remarks, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed in a statement that the president will sign the funding bill and take executive action to build the wall. “President Trump will sign the government funding bill, and as he has stated before, he will also take other executive action – including a national emergency – to ensure we stop the national security and humanitarian crisis at the border. The President is once again delivering on his promise to build the wall, protect the border, and secure our great country,” Sanders said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Democrats “may” file a legal challenge if a national emergency is declared, saying she and other party leaders are reviewing their options. “I may, that’s an option. We will review our options,” she said when asked if Democrats will take legal action. “But it’s important to note that when the president declares this emergency, first of all, it’s not an emergency. What’s happening at the border is a humanitarian challenge to us. The president is trying to sell a bill of goods.”

Following Pelosi’s remarks, Sanders told reporters that the administration is “very prepared” for legal challenges, adding that “there shouldn’t be” any. “The president’s doing his job. Congress should do theirs,” she said.
The Democrat-controlled House is poised to pass the sweeping measure Thursday evening, and the Republican-led Senate is expected to approve as well. Bargainers formally completed the accord moments before midnight Wednesday night.  more here

  1. 0bama and Bush used National Emergencies. So don’t anybody tell me a democrat hasn’t done that before.

Whatever’s in the bill doesn’t stop Trump from using it.

Yes, the bill sucks, no I don’t like the turtle.
Trump gave the dems enough, it’s time to take some goodies (wall) out for us, too.

  2. This is a set up. McConnell has already conferred with Nancy on the number of courts who’ll block a nat’l emergency and he approves. Further, there’s plenty of articles outlining the numerous “land mines” and they are doozies. The Wall (or lack thereof) is the least we have to be worried about.

  3. …(from American Thinker) Trump extended all the emergencies declared by Presidents Obama, Bush, and Clinton. In addition, Trump extended the national emergency associated with Iran, which President Carter had previously declared. Currently, there are 31 active national emergencies in the United States. For reference, the U.S. Congress has the right to cancel a declaration of a national emergency, but only if both houses of Congress vote for it with a two-thirds majority. (end quote)

I saw prototypes south of Coolidge Arizona and they wook fahbuwous. The wall cometh. (And anti-gun people wonder why constitutional carry is passing in many states). The wall cometh.

  4. the difference between crisis and emergency is that crisis is a crucial or decisive point or situation; a turning point while emergency is a situation which poses an immediate risk and which requires urgent attention.

When does Nan’s crisis become an emergency? How many more American lives and jobs need to be lost to the hands of illegals? How many more millions of illegals need to come pouring across the border? These are wrong questions to ask because they are questions Americans are asking.

It sure is a humanitarian crisis (and emergency), for Americans. The difference right now is Nan places the crisis in the illegal camp. While DJT places the emergency in the American camp. Nan is worried for the illegals and doesn’t give a rat’s ass about Americans. Treasonous thinking she’s got going on in that skull.

  5. The 4 senators I even marginally like (Lee, Cruz, Sasse and Cotton) all voted “nay”. A horrible bill, full of “poison pills” planted by the dems. Let’s be honest here, the Democrats, despite their insanity on policy, really do this whole “government” thing much better then the GOP. They are smarter, know how to rally the troops more effectively and never let little things like morality, decency or even patriotism stands in their way of power accumulation.

  6. I occasionally see people bring up Kushner like he’s this grand mastermind/willing pawn… and I have yet to find anything of substance backing up this attitude or outlook.
