WaPo Puts Covington Kids-Exonerating Report on Page One

WaPo– Three weeks ago, The Washington Post wrote a story on the allegedly racist Covington Kids, smelling a pro-Trump rat. The online headline was “A viral story spread. The mainstream media rushed to keep up. The Trump Internet pounced.”

But on Thursday morning came a surprise: the front page of the Post carried a story headlined “Report finds ‘no evidence’ of racist talk by students.”

Reporters Frances Stead Sellers and Kevin Williams calmly recounted how Covington Catholic High School students rode a bus from Kentucky to attend the March for Life and were faced with “widespread condemnation online” for allegedly saying racist things or appearing racist to Indian activist Nathan Phillips.

Now, the Catholic diocese of Covington commissioned a report from an independent firm, which found no evidence of racism by the Covington kids.

The firm, Greater Cincinnati Investigation Inc., said four licensed investigators spent approximately 240 hours interviewing witnesses and reviewing about 50 hours of Internet activity, including posts on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and video from major networks.

On Wednesday, the diocese released the resulting four-page report. In it, investigators concluded that neither Sandmann nor other Covington students had behaved in an offensive manner that day.

“We found no evidence that the students performed a ‘Build the wall’ chant,” the report said, nor that the students made “offensive or racist comments . . . to Phillips or members of his group.”

The report concludes that some students did perform a “tomahawk chop to the beat of Mr. Phillips’ drumming” — an arm motion mimicking the swinging of a tomahawk that many Native Americans find offensive — “and some joined Mr. Phillips’ chant.” But the report makes no further comment on that behavior.

Phillips refused to talk to the investigators, which could suggest he doesn’t really want to face in-depth questioning about the claims he made in the media…that they could not find on video. But the Post did include obligatory outrage from Indian activists about this investigation:   MORE

  1. Nathan Phillips along with his supporters and promoters that have made racist accusations against the Covington kids are about to find out that a Lie always catches up to you and that nothing good ever comes from them.

  2. What should be questioned is what is causing this kind of reaction to every single thing that happens. Not everyone goes around trying to offend others.
I hope one day we can all recover from this sickness Obama’s and his ilk spread among us.

  3. The leopard doesn’t change his spots (yes, I assumed its gender):
The article only reports that SOMEONE ELSE found no evidence…
…it does not make any correction to or admission of its own libelous actions.

  4. Nathan Phillips isn’t going to find out shit or be held the least bit accountable. He can hole up on any reservation in America and avoid any arrest or deposition that anybody may want to pursue with him. Take that to the bank. No LEO will want to waste resources waiting for him to be caught off the Rez

  5. Always with “The Pouncing” republicans.

The WaPo accuses people of hate crimes and when they never pan out then The Great Pouncening occurs.

What are we, the fucking cast of Cats? Is Rumpleteazer pounding at blog rebuttals in WordPress.

It’s called a response or a counterpoint to the typical lies, disinformation and blood libel of the media. Not “pouncing” on the truth as it were.

  6. It was on page one for one reason and one reason only. The lawyers told Bezos that they would lose a defamation/slander lawsuit and that the size, circulation and reach of the Post would almost guarantee punitive damages in the hundreds of millions of dollars. They could appeal (if they could find grounds for it however I would think that would be iffy) but Bezos would have to put the award into an escrow or trust account until the final decision (and pay interest on the total). This article was an effort to avoid the courts. I hope it fails.

  7. CNN posted a picture of the skinny red man yesterday. He was all cleaned up wearing a new t-shirt (with some slogan on it, having to do probably with genocide of Native American, Indigenous, First Nations, Aboriginal, Indians), looking not quite as bad as he usually does. They showered and saved the old bugger, and combed his hair back. They should have dressed him in tails, spats, and a top hat while they were at it.

He’s a liberal hero for standing up to a gang of bloodthirsty Euro-white Catholic boys bent on genocide, starting with Mr. Drum Banger himself.
