The Latest on Michael Cohen

From the Daily Caller:

Michael Cohen Tried To Make Millions By Putting A US Nuclear Plant Partly In Hands Of Qatar.

Michael Cohen, the disgraced former lawyer to President Donald Trump, took hundreds of thousands of dollars to push a deal that would have resulted in a U.S. nuclear facility being owned partly by Qatar.

And U.S. taxpayers would have wound up footing the bill for the facility, while the investors stood to profit. Qatar is a Middle Eastern nation with ties to Iran, a hostile power whose nuclear activities the United States has tried to keep in check.

At issue is the Bellefonte Nuclear Plant in Alabama, near Memphis. The federal Tennessee Valley Authority spent $5 billion on the facility over 40 years, but it never opened — partly because there wasn’t much demand for the power.

Franklin Haney, a wealthy Tennessee businessman who has made his fortune in part through government contracts, hired Cohen to cement a potential investment from Qatar. Haney wanted to use interest in the project as leverage to try to secure a $5 billion loan from the federal Department of Energy to get the nuclear plant online.

Haney paid Cohen $200,000. But until his contract was terminated because of his legal issues, he stood to earn $5 million, according to a Feb. 19 article by the Institute for Public Service Reporting at the University of Memphis in which Haney spoke candidly and at length about the arrangement for the first time.

Other Gulf states have severed ties with Qatar, saying it supports terrorism and has close ties with Iran. Qatar has investments in Iran and has been increasingly trading with the country. British and Israeli intelligence met over concerns that Iran is trying to breach a 2015 deal limiting its nuclear activity and possibly trying to develop nuclear weapons, Israeli media reported Feb. 22.

Conservatives criticized former President Barack Obama for giving Iran billions of dollars in relief in exchange for promises to curb its nuclear program.

In April 2018, a Qatari delegation was hosting a conference in Florida promoting international investment, and Qatari officials also visited the White House that month to discuss relations between the countries, the Daily Memphian reported.

Also that month in Florida, Haney said, Trump happened to bump into him with a Qatari official and introduced them, saying “I know you’re working on this nuclear plant. [The Qataris] are going to invest $45 billion [in the U.S.] and they’ll loan money for nuclear plants.”

Haney said Trump had no further involvement and did not link him up with Cohen. Rather, Cohen sensed a business opportunity and inserted himself, Haney said. He showed up on a pier in Miami Beach when Haney docked his yacht there and climbed aboard, according to the article, which was published in the Daily Memphian.  MORE HERE

What The Steele Dossier Got Wrong About Michael Cohen.

When Michael Cohen appears this week before three separate congressional committees, the former Trump lawyer can expect to face questions about allegations leveled against him in the infamous Steele dossier, the Democrat-funded report that alleges a massive conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russian government to influence the 2016 election.

Christopher Steele, the former British spy who wrote the dossier, makes several claims about Cohen in his 35-page report. The most jarring allegation is that Cohen visited Prague in August 2016 to meet with Kremlin officials to discuss paying off computer hackers.

The Prague allegation has been one of the most hotly debated claims made in the dossier, which was funded by the Clinton campaign and DNC. Cohen has vehemently denied the charge, including as recently as December, well after he began cooperating with the special counsel’s investigation into possible Trump campaign collusion. Steele’s defenders claim that the Prague claim is still an open question and that much of the dossier has been verified.

The dossier does contain some clear inaccuracies about Cohen and members of his family, specifically in a memo that Steele wrote on Oct. 18, 2016. But those false claims have largely flown under the radar during the dossier debate because they were one of only a couple of sections of the dossier that BuzzFeed redacted prior to publishing it on Jan. 10, 2017.

An unredacted version was unsealed earlier this month in a lawsuit that was filed against BuzzFeed by another target of the dossier.  MORE

  1. How about the latest from Michael Flynn?

“Flynn-backed plan to transfer nuclear tech to Saudis may have broken laws, say whistleblowers”

Between Flynn and Cohen, I’m beginning to see the faint outlines of a new narrative being formed to replace Muh Russia and serve as a Whatabout if the DOJ starts looking into Clinton’s Uranium One scandal and/or Barky’s Iran Cash Pallets scandal. Looks to me like the Dem/Media is girding for that battle.

  2. While Skeezebag Cohen knows there’s no possibility of a presidential pardon in his future, he’d better think carefully how much he’s willing to prevaricate in these hearings. He has a 3 term sentence and P45 will be P46 by the time he’s released. Depending on what he divulges, he could be looking at more investigations/charges upon his release. But yeah, he’s that stupid.

IF true, please Elijah, do open this can of worms. There’s a world of difference as pertains to discussions that went nowhere v U1. I can’t imagine obama, Hilary, Mueller or Rosie are supportive of this inquiry.

  4. He has the look of a dimwitted street level goomba. A small time criminal with a long list of petty crimes behind him.
The dems want to exploit him to harm Trump but he lacks any credibility.

  5. Engelburka Engelburka, that’s the thing about the Flynn story; It lit up all the NPC media for a few hours last week, then nothing. I heard it lead the news at the top of the hour, then gone an hour later. Like somebody shut that down fast. But there does seem to be some nuke narrative forming.

  6. Latest on Drudge says he is getting ready to testify to Congress about criminal acts and conduct by Trump while in office.

The Left is not going to allow that wall, no matter what they have to do to prevent it.

  7. There will be no justice for the guilty elites. Not in this life. Death comes to all so death cannot be called justice.

What IS just is that the longer they persist in their love of sin, the greater will be their awful condemnation whent the Day comes.
