California’s ‘green energy’ central planners get their hands slapped by San Bernardino County.
Deserts are always favorite dumping grounds for leftists in their pricey “green” schemes, as any resident of Palm Springs, Calif. — fighting headaches under the constant whirring humming sound of wind turbines can tell you — but nowhere was the urge greater to dump on the desert bigger than against the large, sparsely populated San Bernardino County, where state planners decided that a million acres in that county, to be devoted to glassy solar panel farms, would be great for California fulfilling its “green” energy goals.
Much to their surprise, the County, by a 4-1 vote, said no. According to National Wind Watch:
California’s largest county has banned the construction of large solar and wind farms on more than 1 million acres of private land, bending to the will of residents who say they don’t want renewable energy projects industrializing their rural desert communities northeast of Los Angeles.
Thursday’s 4-1 vote by San Bernardino County’s Board of Supervisors highlighted a challenge California could face as it seeks to eliminate the burning of planet-warming fossil fuels.
And puts a clamp on the state’s big plans for being the greenest state of all by 2045. MORE
How many solar and wind farms are on democrat land? It’s always NIMBY with these assholes. I used to love going to the desert where there was nobody and nothing but the wind to listen to. Now it seems you can’t see anything but damn windmills.
Where’s the liberals bemoaning the destruction of mother earth? Hypocrites and pharisees every damn one.
1 million acres of solar and wind equipment does not create jobs in one of the poorest counties in Cali. Riverside county, a similiar large desert county next to SB has the right idea: Construct massive distribution centers on all of that empty space and hire thousands.
We need to get the freaking government out of the energy business already.
I’m willing to bet money that Black Solar Panels have done more to warm the globe than carbon emissions.
@Brad
That’s racist…
What about white solar panels?
How about a large wind power project off-shore? As in, just off-shore and within easy viewing distance of every celebrity’s ocean-front mansion?
Hey Jethro
It would be fun to come up wit some official looking report on Solar Panels warming the earth to throw in the face of people like AOC. Libtards never double check data.
@Brad
Hmmmmmm…..
Actually, they do.
Being black, they absorb a much larger portion of the full spectrum solar energy from the sun, rather than reflecting some of it like light colored objects (The light energy that is reflected back into the sky is what you see in photos of the earth taken from space.)
That absorbed energy is either converted to electricity or just heats up the panels due to their inefficiency in converting the energy into electricity. What they do convert to electricity is transmitted somewhere else to be ultimately converted to heat due to whatever the electricity is used for or is lost to the various inefficiencies downstream.
The bottom line is solar collectors heat the earth more than the natural surfaces they replace.
Jethro
I recall reading an article a couple years ago about a large solar farm in the Mojave Dessert (I think) that super heated the air directly above the panels to a temp high enough to fry birds that attempted to fly over the farm.
weren’t they painting the streets in LA white, just a few years back, so they wouldn’t get so hot. How did that work? Are they still doing it?
Maybe they can just paint the solar panels, or only put them out at night, when the temp is cooler. This stuff isn’t that hard to figure out, and there are jobs to be had- painting and moving the panels.
It’s called the National Solar Thermal Test Facility (solar furnace) at Sandia National Laboratories.
I’ve been there.
No Toby, Ocrazio-Kotex says we need special lunar panels for nighttime power needs.
Air fried? Ever heard of or checked out the HAARP antenna?
Not enough have,,,
Like we can’t F’ with or control climate change?
Jethro
No, this was a Solar Farm.
I use to build parts for Sandia. A freaking weird engineering staff.
@Brad
Weird is relative. There is a spectrum of weirdness in the engineering world. Typically, the weirdness increases with the level of education. Bachelor’s degree engineers (who usually deal with real world stuff) are closest to normal, and most are. PhD engineers and scientists (who focus on pie-in-the-sky stuff) can be WAY out there. Some to the point of being unable to communicate with average people.
The farmer I worked for while in school told a story of the PhD scientist who got a flat tire near the farm and stopped alongside the road. The farmer offered his compressor on his truck to help fill it temporarily so he could continue. The scientist started measuring the tire and wheel and did some calculations to determine how much air to fill it with. The farmer said, “Why don’t you just add air until the gauge reads what the manual says”? The scientist didn’t understand that someone else had already determined the correct pressure and that was how everyone else on Earth filled their tires.
Now, to demonstrate that I am an engineer at the normal end of the range I will go back to my garage to finish installing the exhaust on my 69 Mustang.

Tie died shirts, very thick woven wool pants, seemed to be the standard dress code. Unwashed, unshaven. I took a bunch of these Hippies to lunch and we’re talking business, the food arrives, and they all prayed before they ate. I can’t tell you how many damn business lunches I’ve been on and that was a first. I did work For Lawrence Livermore too, another DOE. They are as you describe above.
@Brad
Who did they pray to?
Jethro
LOL, I have no idea. There was a lot of chanting going on. I’m reasonably sure the Aliens from area 51 were transfered to Sandia and these people are their off spring. Yes they are that weird.
@BB and Jethro: do Black Panels matter?
They’ve been putting these things all over west TX oil & cotton fields.
Nothing much else out there but wind.
