Trump orders historic plan to thwart EMP, warns attack would be ‘debilitating’

WAEX: In the first step of its kind, President Trump has signed an executive order calling for a government wide war on EMP, the types of electromagnetic pulses that can wipe out every computer, electric grid, and jet.

In joining the voices of those warning of EMP attacks, Trump called on his government to quickly generate a plan to detect EMP, protect critical infrastructure like water and electric sources, and also to recover if a hit lands.

“It is the policy of the United States to prepare for the effects of EMPs through targeted approaches that coordinate whole-of-government activities and encourage private-sector engagement,” said the executive order released by the White House.

“The federal government must provide warning of an impending EMP; protect against, respond to, and recover from the effects of an EMP through public and private engagement, planning, and investment; and prevent adversarial events through deterrence, defense, and nuclear nonproliferation efforts. To achieve these goals, the federal government shall engage in risk-informed planning, prioritize research and development (R&D) to address the needs of critical infrastructure stakeholders, and, for adversarial threats, consult Intelligence Community assessments,” it added

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said, “President Trump will always do what it takes to keep Americans safe. Today’s Executive Order — the first ever to establish a comprehensive policy to improve resilience to EMPs — is one more example of how the administration is keeping its promise to always be vigilant against present dangers and future threats.”  read more

  6. I’m in the unpopular camp of wishing an EMP would actually hit. Not for the sake of killing anyone, of causing any harm. I just want to see the millennials and Gen Z to experience actual life for a few days or months or years.

  13. When one country attacks another country and threatens an aggressive overthrow of the government of that country, a state of antagonism tends to be aroused against the aggressor. The media are propaganda arms of the US government, so expecting any kind of truthful representation of US/Bolton vs.Venezuela/Maduro is quite groanable. So the topic of warfare becomes valid. Thus the following topic needs to be discussed, because bullies sometimes encounter reverse payback:
    “Asymmetrical warfare, unconventional strategies and tactics adopted by a force when the military capabilities of belligerent powers are not simply unequal but are so significantly different that they cannot make the same sorts of attacks on each other.”

    EMP attacks aren’t likely what could happen to the USA, but what has been done to Venezuela could be done the same way.

  15. They can protect the grid all they want but in the event of an EMP anything you try to plug into it will just be junk because all the circuitry will be fried. If I remember correctly even batteries are toast. Probably only thing protected will be government and military communications.

  21. Durring the Obama years I stocked on food, brass and lead. When “investments” came up as a topic I would just say “I’m investing in semi precious metals”. I have enough fire power to kill everyone within the radius of smelling bread being baked.

    All that being said I dont long for an empty. Thank God Trump is hardening our vitals. If it were to hit as is a congressional blue ribbon panel projects 70% of Americans dead in the first year. The only thing worse would be weaponized flu or Ebola.

  26. An EMP is not the same as being hit by a a cruise missile, especially more than once. Taking down a country by missile sabotage is definitely a military specialty. I remember that is how subduing Iraq began. The brave US navy fired missiles from a cruiser directly into a city for a quick killing of civilians. This is apparently the current plan for subduing Venezuela to oust Maduro to get US control over the oil again. And Trump agreed with Bolton to do this? Yes! [ Guaido is a CIA-trained usurper who wasn’t even known by almost all Venezuelans.]
