Airline declares bankruptcy, leaves thousands stranded

DC: WOW Air declared bankruptcy and ceased all operations Thursday in a move that left thousands of travelers stranded across Europe and North America.

“WOW AIR has ceased operation. All WOW AIR flights have been cancelled,” the airline posted in a travel alert. The Icelandic airline grounded planes from New York, Boston, Detroit, Baltimore, Montreal and Toronto late Wednesday night, according to CBS News.

Numerous planes traveling to Reykjavik, Iceland, also did not take off Thursday morning after the airline closed its doors.

Iceland-bound WOW aircraft flying out of Copenhagen, Denmark; Amsterdam; Paris; Dublin; Brussels; Berlin and Frankfurt, Germany, did not take off Thursday, CBS reported. Thousands of passengers have been stranded, according to BBC News.

The airline began operating in 2012 and provided cheap flights between Europe and North America.  more here

Last year I looked at WOW for a cheap flight to Europe but ultimately gave them a pass, did not want to be nickel and dimed on fees,”You want the code to the bathroom? $49.99 plus a flush fee and a charge per square of TP used”. I also suspected their pilots were all graduates of the Acme School of Aviation.

    Also on topic, is it just me or has anyone else pretty much written off all further European travel due to their liberal immigration policies and the resulting inherent danger to anyone looking remotely American?

    I am a proud graduate of Yahoo (yay who) Academy of Locomotive Engineering. Y.A.L.E. My favorite conductor came up with that to rag on us hogheads (engineers). Spent 38 yrs running trains on the ATSF/BNSF.

WOW could have spun this news flash to their advantage by holding a press conference and announce”Like, at the highest levels of WOW, like we talked about, how, like, AOC’s Green Bill and like, we had a moment of clarity and like decided we did not want to be negative vibe merchants of Carbon Death and like, to save the world, like, as of today, like, we are suspended all air travel. For those that are stranded, like, take heart, like, your sacrifice, like, will help heal this wounded world. Like, best to just stay where you are until you can, like, sail on a carbon free sail boat home or like put on your walking shoes.

    Had they done that libtards everywhere would be hailing WOW as the corporate model of who we are going to save the world and all the execs would be poised for nice cushy easy jobs in the House or Senate. What a wasted opportunity.
