Judge Hands Unusual Sentences to Animal Abusers

ET: This judge is not your “run-of-the-mill” type of judge, and neither are the punishments he dishes out to animal abusers. If you do the crime, you might end up with more than just the time.

Judge Michael Cicconetti from Ohio has become an online sensation because of the rather creative and unusual punishments he hands out. His aim is to teach people a lesson, and when it comes to animal abuse, the judge won’t spare the rod.

“How would you like to be dumped off at a metro park late at night, spend the night listening to the coyotes … listening to the raccoons around you in the dark night, and sit out there in the cold not knowing where you’re going to get your next meal, not knowing when you are going to be rescued?” he asked one offender.

The woman had abandoned 35 kittens in the woods, and the judge decided to give her a taste of her own medicine.

He hit her with a fine, jail time, and ordered her to spend a night alone in the freezing woods.

  1. Seems fair. And in more egregious offenses, have them spend a year working at a no-kill sanctuary where they can observe first-hand the effects of their cruelty.

  2. Metro parks have coyotes, racoons maybe. Does Central Park in NYC have coyotes, there have been rumors of them, they can pretty much adapt and live anywhere and racoons are pests. I’ve had racoons, skunks, a moose, squirrels, wild turkeys, crows etc. in my neighborhood and there are coyotes nearby on the edges of town who love to prey on small animals like cats and small dogs. Better just to drop them off in a wilderness area in Montana thirty or more miles from nowhere and tell them to hike out.

  3. I have to agree with Anon above. If she’s raped or murdered while being alone in the park at night, then the taxpayers get to pay the judgment when the state gets sued.

  4. All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all.

I cannot think of anyone more depraved than to purposely abuse a domesticated animal (with the exception of abuse to children). These creatures are completely at our mercy. I applaud the judge for trying to change attitudes, but I think either monetary punishment or jail time would be more effective. His creative sentences would seem to just make these people feel victimized.

  5. “… had abandoned 35 kittens in the woods …”
    OR
“… freed 35 kittens from vicious humans who were forcing the kitties to live as slaves …”

    Give it the proper “spin!”
