AMN: Passengers were recovering Saturday from their harrowing plane trip that took them through lightning storms and ended when their chartered aircraft hurtled past the end of a runway at Naval Air Station Jacksonville and plunged into the St. Johns River.
The partly submerged jet will remain in the river while federal investigators look into what went wrong.
All 136 passengers and seven crew on board the flight from Guantanamo Bay in Cuba survived the crash at about 9:49 p.m. Friday at the military base on Jacksonville’s Westside.
“It’s a miracle,” base commander Capt. Mike Conner said during a briefing after everyone including an infant was rescued from the Boeing 737-800. “We could be talking about a different story.”
Hospital officials said 22 passengers — taken to emergency rooms — were treated and released, although one 3-month-old child was kept overnight at Wolfson Children’s Hospital as a precaution. more
Blessed real news..
Why I come to IOTW,,,,
TY
They’re recovering the bodies of pets in the cargo hold as of the last report. This happened right across the river from me.
Very scary and so sad about the pets!
CNN must be torn between the opportunity to cover a plane crash 24/7 and boost their shitty ratings or continue vilifying Trump!
9000 foot runway and the pilot came in too hot. See what happens when the Govt pays the lowest bidder for services?
I am upset about the pets. They should not be in cargo in the first place. They should be in special carriers with purchased seats or other accomodation in passenger section. Even a large dog could be placed in a special narrow carrier at a bulkhead.
