Trump Administration to Issue Additional 30,000 Visas for Temporary Workers

Epoch Times: The Trump administration announced on May 6 that it plans to make 30,000 additional visas available for foreign workers who wish to work in the United States temporarily under the H-2B program for the 2019 fiscal year.

The plan would benefit oyster shucking companies, fisheries, loggers, and seasonal hotels, all of which use the visas to hire temporary workers for jobs they say Americans won’t do.

The additional visas will only be granted to only returning works who previously held an H-2B visa during the last three fiscal years, according to a joint statement by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Labor (DOL).

Officials say these workers have already been vetted and are trusted, are not likely to stay past their visa, and can have their visas approved more rapidly given their known history.  more here

  1. Musta reached 100% employment and the end of welfare!
(certainly shouldn’t be importing rats while Americans are on the dole)

    Hurrah!

  2. I wonder just how these companies proved to the feds that they couldn’t hire Americans to fill these spots because Americans won’t do the work or did they even have to. If it’s a problem with welfare eligibility promise to allow them back on after the job conclude. It’s a start and if they work hard they may find a fulltime job at the end of the season. At the very least you’ve saved a chunk of welfare money.

I’ll bet the foreign temps don’t get paid as much as the fulltime (even accounting for the temporary nature of the job), they don’t get healthcare (I would suspect) and that despite the assurance that they won’t overstay their visa that half of them disappear toward the end of their legal stay.
