Texas Officials Illuminate Crosses After Atheists’ Call for Removal

Breitbart:

COLDSPRING, TX – Elected officials in an East Texas community defiantly illuminated the crosses on their courthouse after an atheist organization told them to take them down. The move came after the county judge and commissioners voted unanimously to keep the four crosses on the county building.

Breitbart News reported that the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) complained to San Jacinto County public officials about the prominent display of the “Latin cross[es].” The self-described “state/church watchdog” claims it has over 30,000 members.

The foundation issued an “Action Alert” to its supporters on May 7th saying, “A concerned Coldspring resident reported to FFRF that San Jacinto County has the crosses up all year round and even lights the crosses during the holiday season.” The organization that calls itself a “nonprophet nonprofit” asked members to “Tell San Jacinto commissioners to remove courthouse crosses.”

As reported, 600-700 residents filled the Coldspring Community Shelter when the commissioners voted on the issue. Over 45 residents signed up to address the county officials at the meeting which felt like a revival, one speaker said.

Residents of the county of just under 29,000 people celebrated on social media after it saw photos of the illuminated Christian symbol on the courthouse.

Dwayne Wright, who serves as the county’s GOP chair, took this photo and posted it on his Facebook page saying, “THIS is how we roll in San Jacinto County! Not only did we not cower to the Wisconsin Whiners, we Lit Them Up!”  more here

  1. No one is holding a gun to their head and forcing them to practice any religion, yet. Islam will change atheists into believers…or kill them.
Then it will be too late to leave peaceful people alone.

  2. Stupid Atheists. The Constitution says “freed OF religion”, not “freedom FROM religion”. The Founding Fathers wanted each State to decide religious matters for itself, knowing that Local Rule is the best Rule. If a state wanted to put up crossed all over, great.

  3. Their website subheading says something about ‘keeping the separation of church and state going’…yaddi yaddy…

    And they have Talking Points!!!

    TALKING POINTS
As a local constituent, I am urging you to remove the four crosses from the front of the San Jacinto Courthouse. The crosses indisputably amount to an unconstitutional government endorsement of religion. They do not represent me or the growing number of nonreligious and non-Christian Americans.

“Please do not open the county’s taxpayers up to expensive legal liability by ignoring the request to remove these crosses. Thank you for your time.”

    Hey Dipshits,

    A) the separation of church and state, as they understand it, is a myth.
    B) FFRF STFU and mind your own business in your OWN effing state.

  4. We had these same twerps try this in our city in MI. The city had an image on its logo and one section of the image had a steeple with cross. They failed. The city did not give in. The logo remains.

    Just ignore them.

  5. “The Constitution says “freedom OF religion”, not “freedom FROM religion”.” -Mansfield Lovell

Why is that so hard for people in this country to understand? I’ve never figured it out.

  6. The ultimate losers keep trying to kill God.

Even their knees will bend when the time comes. They will know they deserve their fate – their suffering and gnashing of teeth will begin because there are no lies there – not even the BS we tell ourselves to avoid the truth landing squarely on our shoulders here.

There is only one way to avoid this fate. No one can be good enough to earn being with the absolute perfection that is God for eternity.

Eternity is a long time to be wrong about this.

Only God’s grace can save you from that. You must seek Him, but He is waiting right by your side.

  7. “Just ignore them.”

Not a winning plan. At all. That’s how they got this far.

One must stand up for what is right. Let your light shine. Scare the darkness away.

  8. I had a boss who kept spouting “Freedom FROM Religion” when he was on a rant. Of course, in MN – and I suppose many leftist areas – you are allowed to speak your mind if you keep to the leftist talking points.

I did ask him, once, to find it for me in the Constitution. Actually gave him one of my handy pocket Constitutions. He gladly took it and said he’d get back to me. Never did. But he stopped with the FFR crap. And I didn’t get fired!

Ignore them by not giving their arguments any credence. I think disregarding their complaints sends a strong, clear message that we will not be bullied.

Maybe we are saying the same thing in a different way.

I was mulling over this point you make before you posted it. Arguing with them kind of gives them some kind of status/legitimacy.

But shutting them down is necessary, IMO. Maybe even causing them a little anonymous, or the other end of the spectrum – court-driven, trouble for their efforts could be helpful.

Making ’em pay for their efforts would be a good thing. They’re not going to stop on their own and draining some of their finances would be a good thing.

As a teenager, sometimes I saw that troublesome people’s lug nuts just happened to disappear.

Weird, I know. Tsk. ¯\_(?)_/¯ Karma? I think so… heh

  11. If flashing lights would annoy the atheists even more I wish they would install those. Atheists think this is all there is but there is more. Much more.

  12. I have not read the book, but the book “trailer” touches on several aspects relating to those who have/are attacking the founding principles of our country.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbsVc5AypXE

I am purposing this video to pose the question, where are those who purport to confess the Messiah of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who are to minister to the widow, orphan, infirmed and those without a voice?

Praise YAH that we are seeing a surge of defense, en masse, of of those in the womb, may it continue unending to the glory of His name.

Where has the pulpit and the flock been since the mid 20th century? Where are the voices crying out, defending principles which led to the founding of this nation.

The forces of satan attack on any and all fronts they see as possible inroads to their goal, the removing of the One True Living Elohim of all creation.

Their most successful point of attack has been the erroneous idea of “Separation of Church and State”, holding that it means the exact opposite (anti-messiah) of its purpose.

    From: https://wallbuilders.com/respond-separation-church-state/

“The phrase “separation of Church and State” cannot be found in the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence. In fact, it is not found in any of our nation’s founding documents. Related to government, the phrase first appeared in a letter written by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptist Association of Connecticut in 1801.”

Is Matthew 25:31-46 to be our judgement? The finger pointing begins with me, and the time is coming, very soon, where we will all have to stand up to defend His principles or go the way of the goats.
