Tornadoes Pulverize Buildings Across Ohio, Indiana

Epoch Times: A barrage of storms and tornadoes tore across Ohio and Indiana early on May 28, killing at least one person and injuring scores of others, as homes were left smashed and power outages affected thousands.

Forecasters said the storms were among 53 tornadoes that may have touched down during May 27 across eight states, stretching eastward from Idaho and Colorado. Media reports said that at least one tornado hit Dayton, Ohio, and at least two others touched down near the city, including one near the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

The extreme weather came as part of a series of storms that have ravaged the U.S. Midwest in recent days. High winds knocked houses off their foundations, toppled trees, and hurled so much debris that it could be seen on radar. Highway crews had to use snowplows to clear an interstate highway in Ohio. Some of the heaviest damage was reported just outside Dayton.

The National Weather Service said there was a risk of more extreme weather, including tornadoes and hailstorm in Kansas and other Midwest states. In the meantime, residents in Arkansas and Oklahoma braced for more record-breaking floods. The service also said that at least one of the tornadoes reached wind speeds of 140 mph. read more

  1. Weather has been absolute crap back home in Illinois. We’re currently hiding out in the Smokies, 70° and sunny. It was way too hot up in Roanoke, so we quit the coast. Time to go ride the CherryCola Skyway again!

  2. …much, MUCH worse…

    “NOAA/NWS 1925 Tri-State Tornado Web Site–Tornado Track

For thousands of residents in Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois, and Southwest Indiana, the days following March 18, 1925 must have been horrendous. Hundreds of lives had been taken and thousands were injured or left homeless. With so many fatalities, so many injuries, so much destruction, and so many lives torn apart, it was now time to clean up the mess that nature had left behind. But this was much easier said than done—for it would take months to rebuild what had been demolished in less than 4 hours. Let’s take a brief look at what happened years ago, on that dreadful day of the Great Tri-State Tornado.

It all started around 1:00 p.m. just northwest of Ellington, Missouri, where one farmer was killed. From there, the tornado raced to the northeast, killing two people and inflicting $500,000 in damage upon Annapolis and the mining town of Leadanna. Departing the Ozarks, the storm headed across the farmland of Bollinger County, injuring 32 children in two county schools. By the time the tornado reached the Mississippi River bordering Perry County, eleven Missourians had perished.

The devastation mounted in southern Illinois, as the entire town of Gorham was demolished around 2:30 p.m. There, 34 people lost their lives. During the next 40 minutes, 541 people were killed and 1,423 were seriously injured as the tornado tore a path of destruction nearly one mile wide through the towns of Murphysboro, De Soto, Hurst-Bush, and West Frankfort. In eastern Franklin County, 22 people died as the town of Parrish was virtually wiped off the map. The tornado proceeded unabated across rural farmland of Hamilton and White Counties, where the death toll reached 65.

After taking the lives of more than 600 Illinoisans, the storm surged across the Wabash River, demolishing the entire community of Griffin, Indiana. Next in line were the rural areas just northwest of Owensville, where about 85 farms were devastated. As the storm ripped across Princeton, about half the town was destroyed, with damage here estimated at $1.8 million. Fortunately, the twister dissipated about ten miles northeast of Princeton, sparing the community of Petersburg in Pike County. In the aftermath, the death toll mounted to 695 people—at least 71 of those were in Southwest Indiana. Property damage totaled $16.5 million—nearly 2/3 of that was in Murphysboro alone.”

  3. …all that said, my wife has an aunt who lives in Huber Heights, so it was a pretty anxious night, but the Lord protected her and many, many others, but the devistation was so bad they were using snow plows to clear I-75 of debris at one point.

God Bless the people who lost loved ones.
    God Bless the injured.
    God Bless their rescuers.
And God Bless the people who have to rebuild.

Keep these in your prayers, and pray for the ongoing safety of all during this continuing period of instability…

  4. When weather results are really horrific, the media does not report the truth, neither does the government. Death and destruction are covered up. Hurricane Andrew and Katrina are examples. Probably there have been many more deaths from these tornadoes than is now reported. No doubt these hit areas are desperately in need of outside help, but such help may NOT be allowed in. Independent journalists may be the only source of getting truthful reports. Don’t just believe government officials are going to be aiding the stricken areas. They have past records of inhibiting needed aid. Never aiding, or too little, and stripping victims of guns needed for self protection.

  5. The destruction of the USA is being accomplished very thoroughly by internal and external enemies. There are no ways to stop what is being done to the country, except that God would have mercy and respond to humble prayer. Does this country actually deserve His help when there is so much rampant evil? For sure, Americans can not fight back against those who are using the weather for massive attacks. Even if it is US Military technology causing them.
