Walmart CEO ‘Pulling Back on Gun Sales’ Asking Government to Act

Dan Bongino:

Today Walmart CEO Doug McMillon sent out a memo to Walmart employees after two deadly shootings occurred at Walmarts in just under a week. The first left 22 dead at a Walmart in El Paso on August 3rd, and the second was a “disgruntled employee” who killed two colleagues and wounded a responding officer in Mississippi.

The decision comes after “mounting pressure from gun-control advocacy groups, politicians and Walmart’s own employees. About 40 white-collar Walmart workers in California walked out on the job last month to protest its gun policies” reports the Washington Post.

In the memo, the global retailer CEO said, “it’s clear to us that the status quo is unacceptable…we know these decisions will inconvenience some of our customers, and we hope they will understand.” Specified was that Walmart will “stop selling ammunition for handguns and short-barrel rifles – including .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber cartridges, which can be used I military-style weapons – once it sells through its current stock. Those changes are likely to lower the company’s market share of ammunition sales from about 20 percent to as little as 6 percent, the company said.” more here

  1. I saw a couple of posts last week about how Dick’s had a great Q2. But their stock price is pretty sluggish, particularly since this is 2 quarters in a row of ‘surprise’ earnings. Far below its 2016 value. Although there are many factors, I’m thinking dropping guns hasn’t helped.

  2. Their CEO claims that they respect their gun owning customers. VERY strange way of showing it. Seems to me that they prefer virtue signaling to business with those of us who own or want firearms – a sign of disrespect to me. There are alternatives for food, etc., here in Nolackaloonies.
    Bye…

  3. @LCD
Q2 is the beginning of sports season for kids and adults, which is their biggest sales time.
The tell-tale will be Q4 sales, which is hunting season.
I used to frequent the Dick’s near me to buy my hunting and fishing stuff. During hunting season that section of the store was always full of customers. I don’t go there any more.

  4. Glad I sold my Walmart stock a while back. Happy that I made a good profit while I did have it.

Not sure what Sam would be saying now, but pretty sure he wouldn’t have caved.

  5. I didn’t know Eric Holder was on the Walmart board of directors. Hell, my nearest Walmart is in a town that you’d swear was Somalia. When I do go there, I’m armed to the teeth in case the natives get restless. I usually drive eighteen miles away to a Walmart that serves a more civilized clientele.

  6. Walmart CEO Doug McMillon should show real enthusiasm for his idea and close all Walmart stores. After all – People get shot there, don’t they. And I don’t think it has been confirmed people were shot with firearms and ammo purchased at Walmart.

  7. This is what a pantywaist CEO looks like. He just lost 50% of his customers for pork chops, lawn fertilizer, electronics, yogurt, milk and cheese.
I don’t buy my ammo there and STFU wasn’t an option for him.

    Now the whole company suffers.

Your virtue has been signaled, and your corporate death knell has also been signaled.

    You are a stupid person.

  8. They have stated that firearms are a draw to
get men into the store and buying unrelated
items well beyond the value of the guns/ammo.
Considering all of the online retail sites with
short delivery times and low or no delivery fees
who needs Wally’s anymore? Buy from the good guys
while staying home having a beer.

  9. Um, let’s see…… Dick’s I no longer shop, even though I have a Son who plays baseball. Truly a pain in the ass as there are no other sporting goods stores in my area….. Kroger I quit because of their anti-gun stance taken after one of these shootings a few years ago….. Now wally-world is full gun control (from one of the largest retailers of ammunition in the world to full stop) leaving me with Food Lion and farther down the road Wegmans…. sheesh the options are dwindling.
