Zimbabwe- Robert Mugabe Dies At 95

Epoch Times:

HARARE, ZimbabweRobert Mugabe, the former leader of Zimbabwe forced to resign in 2017 after a 37-year rule marred in its later stages by economic turmoil, disputed elections and human rights violations, has died. He was 95.

His successor President Emmerson Mnangagwa confirmed Mugabe’s death in a tweet Friday, saying, “His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Mugabe, who took power after white minority rule ended in 1980, once said he wanted to rule for life. But growing discontent about the southern African country’s fractured leadership and other problems prompted a military intervention, impeachment proceedings by the parliament and large street demonstrations for his removal.

The announcement of Mugabe’s Nov. 21, 2017 resignation after he initially ignored escalating calls to quit triggered wild celebrations in the streets of the capital, Harare. Well into the night, cars honked and people danced and sang in a spectacle of free expression that would have been impossible during his years in power and reflected hopes for a better future. read more

  1. Mugabe will be remembered as the prototypical African strong man. He “liberated” his people only to utterly destroy the nation he and his followers inherited. A legacy of ruination, repression and violence that kept him in power for decades.

  2. “He fell after stepping off a plane…read the wrong speech at the opening of parliament and appeared to be dozing during a news conference.”

What a resume. He could have been a Democrat front runner here.

  3. I hope that prick died hard. He took power of a country that was the breadbasket of southern Africa and instead of making it a model of how blacks and whites could reconcile and make an even stronger country he promoted a “get even” approach for wrongs committed by the whites (both real but mostly imagined) and initiated a quasi socialist dictatorship based on fear, revenge, envy, hatred, violence, graft, cronyism, theft and insane economic policy. One of the shames is that South Africa seems to looking at this as a model in how their transition should be.

  4. Ahh … just prop him up in a chair and appoint him to the Supreme Court – he and Ruth Buzzie Ginsberg will get along famously.

Doesn’t matter if they’re dead – as long as they vote correctly!

“His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten.”
Damned straight! His accomplishments in driving the country and the economy into poverty, recession, triple digit inflation – will never be forgotten.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
May his soul burn in eternal hell.
There. Fixed it for ya. Yer welcome.
