Yesterday, while in a conversation with a friend, this song came up. Never heard of it.

It was one of my favorites back in the day. Haven’t heard it in a long, long time. Thanks!

First dance(slow)with a girl. I was terrified she was soft and smelled wonderful.

Big hit in the 70s. I was told it was about a pet dog.

Irish setter.

This was a flipside favorite to that other melancholy smash, “Wildfire.” Whenever played back-to-back, suicide rates in the listening area spiked 30%. Add on “Seasons in the Sun,” it was 70%.

Good tune from the 70s, a one-hit wonder.

Typical overplayed AM radio song that was played to death making you hate it. AM radio ruined a lot of music for me as a youngun.

Can’t place it. If I heard it, it didn’t make an impression.

@ Diff Tim,
phookin’ ‘Free Bird’…… My head might explode if I ever have to hear it again. Never is too soon.
This song has a familiar ring to it, but it doesn’t stand out in my memory.

Want to here a good am record. Check Byron MacGregor The Americans. He was a canadian DJ at Detroit’s CKLW. It was a different time back then. If you love your country you’ll love his take on it from almost 50 years ago. Was a big hit locally here in Mich but don’t know if it went nationwide. It should have.

I never heard of it either, and I’m a child of the 70′ who was a Top-40 devotee. But I do remember it being included on all those 70’s compilation albums (“Freedom Rock”) sold on TV years ago.

@ Diff Tim,
“phookin’ ‘Free Bird’…… My head might explode if I ever have to hear it again. Never is too soon.”
…just so you know, I apologize, but I’m “that guy” who yells out “Free Bird!” whenever there’s an awkward silence at a public event like it’s funny, so, sorry if I end up being the one that puts you over the top…

Grool, add in “Run, Joey, Run” (ever hear that one, BFH?) and everybody dies.
Written by Brian Wilson (Beach Boys). Henry Gross was THE perfect example of a one-hit wonder.

…you might enjoy “The Adventures of Milo and Otis”, Claudia, and it is not about two gay men in an apartment like something with that title would be NOW, but a puppy, a kitty, and an unexpected journey that has nothing you need to avoid at the end…

Speaking of people who died…

I remember the song, but I didn’t know it was about a dog.
Same here Grayjohn.
I lasted about 30 seconds. Horrible.
Sorry, I’ll take Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep over that any day.
^^^^^^ . !
I remember it well. Ok the first few times, but then had to turn off the radio when they played it.
Didn’t like it because it was sad, now I hate it knowing it was about a dog. Dang, I could have lived the rest of my life without knowing that! 🙁
…never watch Ol’ Yeller then, Claudia, you REALLY won’t like THAT ending…
^^^ (Claudia watching Ol’ Yeller…actually, EVERYONE watching Ol’ Yeller)

(sorry ’bout the ad…)
BFH, I had completely forgotten about CCCC until you brought it up way back when….
But what about https://youtu.be/gwvqdXR3XnI
(Warning: Potential Ear Worm)
SNS, yup. That was me. And I didn’t even watch the whole thing. Was watching it on TV and left the room before the deed was done.
Now, if I want to see a movie about critters, I have to know the ending before I watch! Wouldn’t watch “Marley and Me”. Nope, not going to do it.
Did watch “Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey” after I found out they all survived. 🙂
…actually, EVERYONE should watch the ENTIRE Animaniacs “Bumbi’s Mom” episode, it’s a hoot and you will find that NO one dies…

SNS, I loved Milo and Otis! Of course, I knew they didn’t die! Dudley Moore doing the narration was great.
Grool: add Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and you might turn the place into a ghost town.
