Clarence Thomas on Joe Biden and Confirmation Process: ‘I Didn’t Really Appreciate It’

LifeZette: A new documentary shows Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas opening up about his confirmation process, criticizing the way people used his race against him and sharing his thoughts about former Vice President Joe Biden.

“I understood what he was trying to do. I didn’t really appreciate it,” Thomas said of Biden, the former chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Biden, who oversaw Thomas’ confirmation hearings in 1991, had tried to ask Thomas about “natural law” — a thinly veiled attempt to get at his views on abortion, according to the justice.

“Natural law was nothing more than a way of tricking me into talking about abortion,” Thomas said, according to ABC News.

His comments came as part of the documentary “Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words.” more here

  1. In Thomas’ own words;

    “I felt as though in my life I had been looking at the wrong people as the people who would be problematic toward me,” Justice Thomas said in the documentary. “We were told that, ‘Oh, it’s gonna be the bigot in the pickup truck; it’s gonna be the Klansmen; it’s gonna be the rural sheriff.’ But it turned out that through all of that, ultimately the biggest impediment was the modern-day liberal. They were the ones who would discount all those things because they have one issue or because they have the power to caricature you.”

    Of course, they are an open book; The ultimate purveyors of projection, the racists calling us racists, the intolerant who distorts genuine differences of opinion to fit their narrative, and the phony proclamations of diversity in everything except thought. The immutable characteristic of skin color reveals all intentions, all accomplishments, it alone defines status.
