Becoming a general is an amazing accomplishment.

Our next door neighbors invited my wife and I over for their daughter’s first birthday party years back. Her parents showed up to see their only granddaughter’s birthday. She mentioned that her dad had been in the Air Force one time when I said something to her about being an Air Force vet. When I met her father at the party I told him that I had heard that he had been in the Air Force and told him that I had been, too. I then mentioned that I had been stationed overseas at RAF Alconbury and he said that he was very familiar with that base. I then asked him what he had done in the Air Force. He quietly said that he had been Commander of USAFE (United States Air Forces in Europe). I asked him to repeat that because I thought I had misunderstand. Turns out he had been a Four Star General. I later found out why his daughter was so low key about her father’s position when I did some research on him.
