IRS likely to delay April 15 tax filing

Yay.

CNBC: The Trump administration is likely to push back the deadline for filing income tax returns as part of its fiscal stimulus plan to combat the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, The Wall Street Journal reported late Tuesday.

The report cited sources familiar with the matter, including an administration official. There had yet to be a final decision on the move, nor would the logistics of how the plan would work finalized, the newspaper added. Treasury officials were undecided about how long the deadline would be extended beyond April 15, or who would be eligible, according to the report. read more

  1. This is b/s. You have 3 1/2 months to file. There is no excuse. First they leave the post offices open till midnite, then they put out special manned collection boxes. Tell people to grow up and be responsible.

  2. 🤔I was done by March 15 before I went on a trip for some work. When I got back 2 weeks , the final 10-99 had arrived and I filed.

I hate doing it but I hate the feeling of dread more, so I get it out of the way as soon as possible!

  3. This is no biggie. Corporate returns, businesses, were due March 15. W-2 individuals getting a refund will file asap anyway. That leaves only a subset of returns to be filed, and many of those are accountant-driven more complex returns, for which the payors already have sent in their quarterly estimated taxes, and very frequently also filed for extensions to October 15 (which accountants like, since it helps space out the work crunch.)

  4. It’s not a delay in the RETURNS we should worry about. It’s a delay in the REFUNDS.

Russia collusion didn’t work. Impeachment failed. But delaying millions of IRS refunds (an issue that actually affects a wide swath of the electorate directly) might actually do the trick.

Almost makes you think the whole panic may have been planned out that way, doesn’t it?
