KEIB: If you rushed out to the store to hoard items like toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and cleaning products, you might not be able to return them once life returns to normal. New Jersey lawmakers passed a bill that would make it illegal to return items you purchased to prepare for self-isolation due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
Lawmakers are worried that the coronavirus could live on the surfaces of items, and then start spreading once they are returned to the store.
“Following a quarantine or period of isolation, a consumer may attempt to return unused items purchased in bulk, which may contribute to the spread of COVID-19 if the items being returned are contaminated with the virus,” lawmakers wrote in the proposed bill.
The ban on returned items includes toilet paper, cleaning products, dairy products, as well as meat and produce. read more
Because in the 1st week and a half of this, it’s what’s so fucking important for us to do, looking out for you, you stupid idiot voters.
Yet Jersey still lets Cory breath,,
People buy the weirdest stuff in these times. Most everything that people are rushing to obtain my usual stock is enough to last months. “stocking up” to me is just another regular shopping day. I was doing it before it was cool.
The only thing I’m doing different right now is something I rarely do (certainly never all at the same time):
Stuff the second fridge with an 18 pound whole prime ribeye loin that’s dry aging, and a whole brisket flat curing for the world’s best home smoked pastrami, after cutting off the point for burnt ends and store the extra fat for tallow. In addition to all that meat, I cut a whole 14 pound prime top loin into 1-1/2″ thick strip steaks so I’ve got meat to eat while I wait for the other meat to finish.
oh, and I bought a few extra canned goods to round out the pantry. Other than that my life remains the same.
Not to worry. If this Corona Conspiracy lasts as long as some are predicting, there won’t be any “leftovers” to return.
Hoarding fresh meat and produce is just plain stupid, and there were plenty of stupid people last week. I doubt that many of those people have big freezers or know how to can stuff. Even baked goods have a limited shelf life. When their twenty loaves of bread start getting moldy in a few more days (if they haven’t already), they will be tossing most of it. The meat and some of the veggies and fruit should also be starting to turn just about now.
I was going to go out and do some shopping yesterday, as I figured things would have been restocked and the pressure was down — then an earthquake. Beyond the now smug attitude of all those who filled their garages with bottled water, there will likely be another wave of panic buying.
Many of the hoarders are already morbidly obese.
Look for their latest gluttony to take them out of the game.
More cause for optimism on the other side of this.

That’s a start.
Petey B and I stocked up on K-Y Jelly more than usual during this crisis since he’ll be holed up inside of of my unbleached elastic starfish for God knows how long. This coronavirus is so contagious that it almost spreads faster than my ass cheeks!
Same as those assholes who buy generators before the storm and return them the day after – Fuck em – shouldn’t take em back – PERIOD.
We have to pay the price for all the gougers, liars, cheeseballs, grifters, hoarders, and politicians.
I bought 2 spam cans of 7.62x54R because of the low price, even though I don’t own a Mosin-Nagant. THAT’S not “hoarding.” That’s “investment.” Hmmm … kinda looks similar …

Went overboard with the TP? Now find yourself with too much after the CoronaPanic “dies” down? (pun intended)
Try Free Market Capitalism! Try to sell your now excess TP on the open market. Keep in mind, no price gouging! And some people have long memories of themselves having to do without, while you foolishly splurged on excess. They MAY be resentful and take out their anger on you.
On second thought, instead of going through all the trouble, fear and hassle, just eat your TP instead. Lots of fiber to deep scrub that colon!
Stores still have the right to refuse returns. They don’t need a law mandating it. It might cost them in repeat business, but that’s capitalism.
What if one had bought all that tp months ago because they saw this coming. Everyone else had their chance. Now it’s tough shitting I guess.
good. make them keep what they wasted their money on.
I bought rimfire ammo after the panic was over and people wanted to sell. I did it fifteen years ago and I did it again last couple years. I pay a fraction of what they paid at the height of the panic buying and less than half of what I could buy it from a distributor for.
I don’t think it is fair!
I bought some scotch bottles last week and when I woke up 3 days latter I noticed they were empty. I think I was cheated!
Anyone who hoarded necessary supplies and tries to return them should get a choice of either giving them away to a homeless shelter/food bank or shoving one of each item hoarded up their ass.

Hey … it happens …

TheMule 8:48 am You are correcto! Whatever reasons or fears they had at their time of clearing the shelves from others they should at least find a morsel of intelligence to hoard them for their next freak out. You know, think ahead for once.
Return? Just convince them they’re prepared for the next crisis…what, like this will be the last one?
I finally went to wally world night before last as we are suddenly out of hotdog buns and whilst I have plenty of liquor, I am running dangerously low on coffee….. they had neither coffee nor ANY bread products. On my way out I told a stranger, “I hope all the hoarded food rots in people’s cupboards!”.. She raised her eyebrows. Nothing at food lion (but beer) nor Kroger….. guess I’ll just have to chop up my dogs and mix ’em with baked beans. Don’t really need the carbs anyway. BUT COFFEE is a big fukcing deal!
i was right to keep large supply of tp and paper towels before any of this happened
i didn’t have to to go out and splurge buy and hoard it when people with out a supply needed it most
i new it would be worth more than i paid when the shtf
just like my jack daniels supply
and i was right
but i am not planning on returning any of it
i ain’t dead yet.
i’ll use it
