love me some John Lee Hooker … one of the old Mississippi Delta Bluesmen … self-taught, ran away from home (at 14, I think). he was illiterate, but authored & composed many songs, including ‘Boom Boom’ (he played it on the ‘Blues Brother’ movie) & ‘One Bourbon, One Scotch & One Beer’
I like the hell out of those old blues players. There’s even a few good white guys that were good. John Lee Hooker was as cool as they came. His scene in the “Blues Brothers” was awesome. I can picture the little kids dancing in the street.

I saw John Lee Hooker at the Eastown Theater in Detroit back in about 72 what a voice and talent. Canned Heat was there too, cannot remember which of them was the headliner. I saw him again in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario a few years later at Soo College. Very entertaining.

I got to see him in 1989. It was a pretty good line-up: John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Cocker, & BB King.
Not one moment of suck that night!
