Trump: Immigration Ban Will Be in Effect for at Least 60 Days

WFB:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump said on Tuesday his new U.S. immigration ban would last for 60 days and apply to those seeking “green cards” for permanent residency in an effort to protect Americans seeking to regain jobs lost because of the coronavirus.

Trump plans to institute the ban through an executive order, which he said he was likely to sign on Wednesday. He said it would not apply to individuals entering the United States on a temporary basis and would be re-evaluated once the 60-day period had passed.

“It would be wrong and unjust for Americans laid off by the virus to be replaced with new immigrant labor flown in from abroad. We must first take care of the American worker,” Trump told reporters at the White House. He said there would be some exemptions in the order and he could renew it for another 60 days or even longer. read more

  1. “He said there would be some exemptions in the order …

    That’s what I expected.

Exemptions make the order mostly meaningless as a virus prevention action, a full ban might help but not a partial one that stills allows for it to come in.

And those exemptions will be ones that work against the best interest of American workers.

  2. It was just announced (that I heard) that Pres. Trump has ordered the Navy to destroy any Iranian ships that harass them.
Between that and the immigration moves liberal heads are going to explode.

  3. I wrote to the White House website about this a week ago. I also wanted an executive order that would ban laying off American workers before H1 B and H2 B foreign guest workers. I have been extremely pessimistic about this shutdown. I don’t see how the millions of supply chains that are interconnected can all start up at once let alone all the wealth that has disappeared so the economic supply chain is also broken. I hope I’m wrong.

  4. “I hope I’m wrong.”

I’m thinking pretty much the same way.

I’m of an opinion that once lost it is unlikely to be found again for a very long time if at all. (That applies to both economic damage to freedom and liberty and everything in between as well.

And I really do hope I’m wrong.

  5. The scum that are so addicted to cheap foreign labor take the savings that they’re not stuffing in their pockets and pump big money into lobbying efforts against the american worker and our so called representatives are more than happy to take the dirty money.

  6. @FarmWife…

“How come this wasn’t done 2 months ago?”

Where and when was Trump’s last big overseas trip?

Who is the biggest threat in Asia to Chinese hegemony there?

Of course exceptions will be made.

  9. Quite the dilemma for the leftist, isn’t it? Keep pushing to keep the economy shutdown or reopen the economy so the gates will be fully opened to import more illegal demonrat voters before Nov. election.
