Phyllis George- former Miss America and NFL sportscaster, dead at 70

AP: Phyllis George, the former Miss America who became a female sportscasting pioneer on CBS’s “The NFL Today” and served as the first lady of Kentucky, has died. She was 70.

A family spokeswoman said George died Thursday at a Lexington, Kentucky, hospital after a long fight with a blood disorder.

Her children, Lincoln Tyler George Brown and CNN White House correspondent Pamela Ashley Brown, released a joint statement, saying:

“For many, Mom was known by her incredible accomplishments as the pioneering female sportscaster, 50th Miss America and first lady. But this was all before we were born and never how we viewed Mom. To us, she was the most incredible mother we could ever ask for, and it is all of the defining qualities the public never saw, especially against the winds of adversity, that symbolize how extraordinary she is more than anything else. The beauty so many recognized on the outside was a mere fraction of her internal beauty, only to be outdone by an unwavering spirit that allowed her to persevere against all the odds.” read more

  1. Even though she was smart and pleasant the only reason she got the job was because she was an attractive woman and it’s still the same today. Look at any of the sports networks. They all have the gaggle of female talking heads. They are usually young, attractive, and dumb as shit.

But they are strong empowered women addressing social concerns and racism while combating the white male patriarchy. And all the guys are trying to get a peek up those tight short skirts the gals wear to display their dedication to wokeness and to make the male viewers at home take bets on how many producers they banged to get the job.

  2. Johnny was smitten as were many of us dudes.

And when hair was like Herbal Essence hair…and Jordane Vanderbilt jeans on chics, ah those were the days.

RIP most classy pioneer and first in your ‘field’.

  3. Erin Andrews has gotten pretty good at talking football, but it took a while. Jessica Mendoza does really good color commentating with baseball and I sure don’t mind lookin’ at either one of them….

  4. At least she changed her mind about going into politics in 2006. Plus, she didn’t go batshit-crazy-Left like most of her contemporaries.

    RIP gorgeous.
