102 shot in Chicago over Father’s Day weekend

JTN: Chicago officials report the city’s highest number of shootings in a single weekend this year. From Friday evening to Monday morning, 102 people were shot, 14 of whom have died, five of those killed were minors.

Several teenagers died in alleys as a result of the rampant weekend violence. A toddler was killed on Saturday evening when he was struck in the back by a bullet as someone fired into his father’s car in Austin, on the West Side of the city.

Two teenage boys were sitting outside on a porch on Saturday evening when once noticed a red laser pointed at him and then gun shots began to ring out. Both were taken to Mount Sinai hospital and are in good condition.

Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said Sunday that violent offenders should be kept in jail for longer because the home monitoring system is not working. MORE HERE

  1. But NBC is trying SO HARD to portray Chicago as such a ‘has it together’ place with their programming: Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. Why isn’t it working?

  2. Oh, how I love the Austin area of Shitcago. Such memories.

I used to live in Cicero, next to Shitcago. My VW Bug broke down on Cicero Avenue in the 70’s just before Madison. The CPD told us to get back in the car and not advertise our presence. Those wonderful cops drove us home. Bug was towed with no damage. But, while we were waiting we watched the rats scoping out an empty cash register at the dry cleaner.

Years later, in almost the same spot, I was the recipient of a ‘smash and grab’ while waiting at the light coming home from work.

My Grandmother used to take us to the theaters on Madison. We’d stop for Chinese take out before boarding the bus on the short drive back to Cicero. We also went to the park across from Loretto Hospital where the old ‘eye-talian’ guys played bocce ball. She spent some time at Loretto – diagnosed with cancer there. Many radiation treatments. That was many moons ago.

I lived through the protests in Cicero in the late 60’s with my Father keeping a machete on the floor next to the bed. I thought those were scary times, but we survived. No looting or burning.

Now, not so much. We need backbone more than ever.

  3. If BLM really matters, then why aren’t they in Chicago right this very minute? Of course I know the answer to the question, and the answer is “the silence is deafening.”
