Under blackout threat, California may keep gas power plants state rushed to close

FOX: California may allow four gas plants to continue operating after the state was poised to close them, citing future blackout threats, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The four plants located along the California coast, which use ocean water for cooling purposes, were scheduled to close sometime in the next few years and be replaced by green energy sources as the state approaches its 2030 deadline to use 60 percent green energy by 2030.

Blackout concerns, however, may allow the companies to receive extensions of up to three years to continue their operations after California saw rolling blackouts on Aug. 14 and 15 following a heat wave that caused failures within its electrical system, the Times reported. more

  1. People usually get what they ask for.

Californians should have taken some time to consider what it is they were really asking for before asking for it.

I have little sympathy for Californians, they seem prone to acting before thinking things through.

  2. Making something plentiful into something scarce is a California specialty. Socialist democrats are self-centered control freaks. Why the people of the state put up with it is beyond me.

  3. “Making something plentiful into something scarce ….. ”

I like that phrase, I really do.

It describes socialism in the fewest possible words and leaves no doubt about what it does.

  4. California wants Green Energy? Fine, install static exercise bikes hooked up with generators hooked into the electrical grid through existing power lines that allow for bike created electricity to push back into the grid. Put the bikes in every home/apt (two in a multi bedroom house) and several in every coffee house, a bank of them in each big shopping center, along rest stops on the road, just about everywhere you can think of. Then issue each state citizens young and old a photocard at can be read by each machine that records the energy generated by each citizen. Give each citizen a quota based on age, estimated electricity usage and physical fitness level (that quota goes up as the fitness level through energy production increases) and issue fines for failure to make quota. Boom! There’s your green energy.

  5. Still gonna have to pay through the nose for that power now. Who wants to work at a plant with a known 3-year lifespan, no upward mobility, or owners willing to pay for repairs they know will never see ROI? That’s going to be a shit show from now on. Lefties see dreams, we see reality.
