I have never heard of this derecho wind. Must be rare indeed. If all this is true this is gonna hurt.
I remember back in the 80s, we tore down our old farm house, and my father wanted to put up a stone home with a flat roof so he wouldn’t have to paint it, shingle it, or spray the bugs that hide under the boards.
We didn’t, it was pretty expensive, and a few years later, “high winds” not officially a tornado via radar, gouged some pretty big holes in our nice wooden home, and took a long time to patch all of them up. We had a pile of wood by the barn, and a 4×4 went straight through the corner of our home as if a guy with a saw cut it. Could have killed us.
Moral of the story, stone beats wood which beats a straw house.
It will be entertaining to see how the media will contort in order to blame this on Trump.
Are all the TV weather-talkers hispanic now? Do we have to use a spanish word to label this phenomenon? If so, can we pick a spanish word that’s easy to say and makes sense? Or maybe just call the wind Maria. Okay, I’m done with my futile little rant.
