I just gave myself a hair cut – IOTW Report

I just gave myself a hair cut

It turned out fine. But I have curly hair, so even if I did mess it up, you can’t tell anyway.

What are you guys up to this Labor Day?

‘ I bet she looks awful! šŸ¤£’

  1. Your haircut comment reminded me of my Mom making us paste King Korn stamps (like S&H Green Stamps) into the little books. She saved up enough to get a “Home Haircut Kit”. This was back in the 60s and I found the kit while going thru her stuff last year. I’m thankful to still have BOTH my ears. Firin’ up the bike in a few for a ride. Mid 80s, low humidity in the Palmetto State

  2. We’re getting ready for guests coming to dinner. Other than that, not much except enjoying Fall weather. It is suddenly a cool 53 degrees, quite a change from the 100 degrees two days ago.

  3. …consider yourself fortunate that you’ll keep enough hair to cut, MJA, unlike us guys with the male pattern baldness…it’s something of a mixed blessing as there’s progressively less hair to cut, but more face to wash…

  4. It’s raining cats and dogs in the county south of TRF. Thunder etc, so no outdoor activities for a while. My cat died at the ER a week ago from a blood clot that broke loose and I need to get the ashes at the vet’s. Maybe Aldi’s or Rego’s because I am having a rare chocolate craving.

  5. …no work today, so lots of work today…days I don’t go to the “money” work are spent under spousal authority, the cruelest taskmaster of all since she long since learned to see through my bullshit, so it was up literally with the chickens to clean and repair the coop, then the lawn needed mowed, and then we need to get some stuff from the hardware store so I…

…you get the idea. I think they call it “Labor Day” because it’s the day I labor for She Who Labored to bear me a son, and everything since is payback time…

    …labor day, huh, where’s the Husband’s Union that I can file a grievance with…;)

..nah, just playing, both my chick and my chickens are worth it, happy labor day everybody…

…I can thing of nothing more wrong, or more horrid, in my case,I don’t think a loving God would allow such abomination, unless He plans to grow me a NICE one to compensate for the original…

  7. Really exciting day here. I swept off the porches and changed my sheets. Cooler weather coming tomorrow after what seems endless hot weather. Invited to a BBQ tonight.

  8. My Labor Day plans were all about continuing labor on a major painting project, until the Great Lakes monsoons rolled in. So Iā€™ll settle for some scraping and clean up instead. Everythingā€™s soaked.

  9. It’s currently 63 degrees outside right now in Spokane with some good stiff winds which will the make the smoke from the fires down around Yakima and up around Okanogan pretty bad today. But other than that it’s a great day, I’m glad to see the last of the hot days in the 90’s are almost over but Winter is right around the corner.

  10. Just got back from cutting back the blackberry canes that are growing into the walking path around our prairie. When I mow the path, they keep reaching out and snagging me, so it’s WAR!

Waiting for my sister to harvest the basil so I can make pesto sauce. Guess what’s for dinner? We put it on spaghetti squash with shrimp. Yum!

I’m not an electrician, but I play one at home…
GFCI outlets deteriorate with age. They often begin nuisance tripping. Often replacing with a new one solves the problem.
First – be absolutely sure the power is off to the circuit at the breaker box before attempting any electrical repair. I have a circuit tester I always apply at the outlet for a final check before disassembling it. Check both outlets in the same outlet box because sometimes one box can hold two separate circuits.
Youtube has many videos that show how to replace outlets.

  12. As I do every Monday, I’m spending the afternoon with my bro-in-law. He’s well along the dementia path and this gives my sister an afternoon to do…whatever the heck she wants without having to worry about him. My BIL enjoys a McD’s QPC with fries, then I turn on the teevee to an action movie. He’s seen them all but doesn’t remember them and so enjoys them as though they’re new to him (and in a way they are). We’re all thankful he’s in good spirits and easy to please. My afternoons with him are quite pleasant.

  13. Here in East Texas just finished showering from a morning of mowing a cover crop of Sorghum-Sudan off the back pasture. All part of a project to convert the pasture to native grasses and wildflowers for the benefit of native pollinators, butterflies, and songbirds. We converted our mostly wooded property to a Wildlife Management plan a couple of years back. The Texas Constitution recognizes operating private land for the benefit of wildlife as a valid agriculture business with the attendant tax advantages.

@Claudia – we harvested basil and made pesto a couple of weeks ago. We substitute walnuts for the more expensive pine nuts. Store a few dozen ZipLoc snack bags in the freezer for use through the year.

  14. Hey Dianny, I can make a few comments that would make them blush. After reading my comments they’ll think yours weren’t so bad after all. Then it’s back to Real Estate sites. We don’t exactly fit in Portland and Portland is only going to get worse. Hey, Eugenia, sorry to see you lost a pet. Tragic.

  15. Eugenia – I’m sorry for your loss.

Back and forth between three projects…installing a tremolo on a guitar, stripping an AR-9 for a new paint scheme and working on a ice cooler/seat contraption for my Roundabout skiff.

  16. 40s overnight with expected high of about 58 today here in Northwest Dairyland. We’ll get back into the 60s by Thursday.

Gave myself an “Avenatti” a couple of days ago. Might go cut the weeds out at the storage shed and up at the cabin, maybe after Tammy Bruce.

I’ve been watching play-throughs of “Among Us” and “Frost Punk” and am about 1/3 of the way through “The King in Yellow” (reminds me of Rod Sterling’s “Night Gallery”) on YouTube. There’s a stack of other books for me to finish if the weather remains unseasonal.

  17. So My grandson is smart and his birthday gift list was heavy on tech gear, even microchip design…becoming 13… so, I had a landscape friend make up a faux rock , 15 inches or so, and put it in a box and with a bow…he was very gracious when he saw the gift and later he left for home with his family. That was last week…today we let our dog out to pee and he ran to a rock for relief…what rock? Yes…so my wife and I are leaving in an hour for Arlington Tx to deposit a rock in grandsons yard or on roof…great vacation weekend.

  18. “Texan, I am craving brisket so badly.”

Got a Weber? You can slow cook/smoke your own. Please indulge me if some of you knew about this, I didn’t and it’s way cool. The Charcoal Snake. Line the perimeter of your kettle 2 deep and 2 wide with briquettes. Leaving about a 5 inch gap in between. Start 6 to 8 briquettes and get them cherry red. Place those at one end of the snake. Place a pan with some water in it in the middle. Close the top vents and the bottom vents about half way closed. Place your favorite smoking wood on top of the snake in a couple spots evenly spaced. You can smoke at 275 degrees for about 7 hours. My favorite recipe for Brisket or Tri Tip is cover with mustard and a good Brown Sugar rub. Check the internal temp and pull it when it reaches 120.
I did two whole chicken a couple night ago. 225 for about 5 hours. Meat was falling off the bones. Try it, it’s fun.

Edit, when it comes to smoking wood you need the big chunks. Maybe 1/2 inch to 1 inch cubes. The little shit is to combustible and will screw up your slow burn.

  19. Am bald now, so canā€™t even cut my hair. Looked at all of my fav websites. Thinking of heading to the front porch if the breeze isnā€™t too chilling for me today. Canā€™t swim, weather changed, only in the 70s. Thinking of watching a movie tonight.

Wish we could have a thread with critiques of funny movies. Need that now.

  20. Daisies are done so itā€™s time to clean up the garden by our front porch (before the sun moves to that side of the house). Cleaning the last set of windows in the back (Mr Illustr8rā€™s job).

Laundry and making pizza dough before the Lightening vs Islanders game comes on (fold laundry during the game). Go Islanders!

Heat wave on the way though. Not happy about that. Looking forward to boots and layers. Iā€™m hanging up my fall wreath anyways!

  21. I just finished cutting the grass. Later, we’re going to take my granddaughter out to eat for her 12th birthday to the Longhorn Steakhouse. Then, I might make some homemade ice cream this evening.

  22. I have a huge patch of basil that sadly is not liking the cooler nights, that I use to make pesto almost daily. A couple delicious variations are pistachios instead of pine nutz and if you can find them, fresca peppers-they’re red and spicy.

If you really feel like splurging, try Parmigiano-Reggiano, oh my what scrumptious cheese.

I also use 1 bulb per batch, none of this 2 or 3 clove stuff.

  23. Oh man Texson, I just got out of w Texas after 5 unhappy years there. You must have family reasons. Good luck dude, my friends back there said it was even hotter than usual this summer. Fuck that.

I couldn’t be happier here in n AR unless I could board in the winters which ain’t gonna happen.

  24. It ain’t today, it’s tomorrow.

Anyhowze, I dropped 3 trees and got one pulled up and mostly sectioned.
Cleaned the goose house and pen.
Then I grilled some brats (wife had skrimps).
    Took a nap, then read.
    Similar to most days, actually.

    izlamo delenda est …
