Et Tu, Classmates? Barrett’s Fellow College Alumni Resort to ‘Hate Group’ Smears Against ACB

PJM: Amy Coney Barrett’s former classmates and even sorority sisters signed a letter to the president of her alma mater, Rhodes College, resorting to some far-left smear tactics to oppose President Donald Trump’s nomination of Barrett to the Supreme Court. Among other things, the alumni’s letter savages ACB for speaking at an event sponsored by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), citing the far-left scandal-plagued smear factory the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) accusation that ADF is a “hate group” worthy of inclusion on a list with the Ku Klux Klan.

The letter’s signatories say many of them were “contemporaries of, friends of, and even sorority sisters of Amy Coney Barrett” and that, “despite the respect that many of us hold for her intellect, and even the friendship that many of us held or continue to hold with her, we are firmly and passionately opposed to her nomination.”

In fact, the alumni declare themselves “firmly and passionately opposed to Rhodes administrators’ attempts to embrace Amy Coney Barrett as an alumna of our beloved alma mater. We oppose this embrace because we believe both her record and the process that has produced her nomination are diametrically opposed to the values of truth, loyalty, and service that we learned at Rhodes.”

Under the heading of “truth,” the alumni accuse Barrett of having “obfuscated” her position and record on “issues related to Rhodes’ LGBTQ and female alumni.” ACB’s former classmates note that the nominee pledged to uphold Supreme Court precedent — such as Roe v. Wade (1973) — during her confirmation hearings for the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, but in a 2013 Texas Law Review article, she said: “a justice’s duty is to the Constitution” and therefore it would be legitimate to strike down a precedent in conflict with the Constitution.

The signatories condemn Barrett for belonging to “the Notre Dame chapter of the anti-choice group University Faculty for Life” and argue that the Federalist Society would only approve a nominee who “is willing to overturn or seriously curtail Roe v. Wade.” more

  1. “She once borrowed a pencil from me and never returned it.”

“She didn’t carry her weight at the sorority bake sale.”

    “She wore a scapular.”

“She didn’t like Life of Brian.

    Stop wasting time. VOTE TODAY.

  2. Where were these defenders of truth whey Barrett was confirmed for Appeals? Rhodes is as leftish as Oberlin and Barrett probably stood out as an independent conservative in the midst of collegiate groupthink.

  3. “…to the values of truth, loyalty, and service that we learned at Rhodes.”

…if you didn’t learn any values of truth, loyalty, or service BEFORE you got to Rhodes, that speaks volumes to how hard your PARENTS failed, and tells us quite a bit about YOU as well…

  4. Good thing her liberal arts sorority sisters expressed their concern regarding their Juris Doctor alumna, one trained in legal debate. Phew, that was a close one – I almost fell for ACB’s sharp, legal arguments for defending my rights!

  5. The left and right are divided and will not reconcile, ever.

What one side vehemently objects to and hates is exactly what the other side enthusiastically approves of and embraces.

This is not going to change without no holds barred destructive open conflict which will eventually destroy both sides with a a new one emerging with the power to rule over the survivors the way Saddam ruled over Iraq.

And why is there a “precedent” in conflict with the Constitution?
NO court ruling can “precede” the Constitution, since all rulings MUST be based on that Constitution (as it is our Foundational Law), or they are invalid. Thus admitting that Roe v Wade is an Un-Constitutional arrogation.

WTF? The plumber can figure shit out that baffles the lawyers?

  7. Notre Dame is Catholic.

ACB’s “classmates” should also be Catholic or at least Sympathetic to its beliefs, otherwise they should have gone to Wellesley or Vassar & majored in Ditch Digging, Box Dining & Carpet Munching.

  8. Students are always very active in socially important questions. Sometimes I wonder where they get so much energy. When I was a student, I could hardly find time for my home assignments, very often I ordered them. I read reviews on Pick The Writer, and chose a few reliable writing services for my homework assignments. This site helped me a lot.

  9. “…the values of truth, loyalty, and service that we learned at Rhodes.”

So much for “truth”, how about loyalty to your “friend” and sorority sister?

As to Amy’s circuit court interrogation by Da Nang Dick Bloomenthal, she said she would respect past decisions, including Roe v Wade. That doesn’t mean she wouldn’t vote to overturn it. To dems, stare decisis is more important than the constitution itself.
