NASA released a video this week depicting what it said was the titanic explosion and gradual fading of a supernova star in a distant galaxy.
The explosion, observed by the Hubble space telescope, released “as much energy in a matter of days as our Sun does in several billion years,” the space administration said in a release.
The supernova was observed in the galaxy NGC 2525, located around 70 million light years from Earth. Hubble first detected the explosion in 2018. more

Actually, that was just another one of my blinding flashes of brilliance.

Better to blow up that fade away.
There seems to be a lot of fading stars, at least in hollyweird. And others that never did shine much in the first place.
Eh, old news. It happened 70 million years ago, the light is just now getting here.

Upon detonation, it would have shone 5,000,000,000 times more brightly than our own sun. A number like that is just astounding to me, and I’ve spent most of my life studying this stuff.
