There will be no Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans in 2021

WDSU6: Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s office posted a link to Frequently Asked Questions for Mardi Gras 2021.

In the guide under the parades section, the city confirms no parades will roll due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Parades of any kind will not be permitted this year because large gatherings have proven to be super spreader events of the COVID-19 virus.”

Communications Director Beau Tidwell said that he wanted to be clear that the city could not cancel Mardi Gras because it is a religious holiday.

“The mayor has neither the power nor the desire to cancel Mardi Gras,” said Tidwell. “It’s a holiday, and it’s going to happen one way or another.”

Tidwell said the decision on parades being cancelled is due to the coronavirus restrictions in the city regarding large gatherings. read more

  1. New Orleans pickpockets and muggers are truly devastated by the news of no parades, the rest of us, not so much. But expect LaToya to be screaming for a taxpayer bailout due to the loss of tax revenue.

  2. Meh.

I always thought the whole concept that you could sin like the devil all day Tuesday and act like you loved the Lord from Wednesday to Easter was pretty ridiculous in the FIRST place, you can’t sin deliberately because you planned to apologize for sinning the next day and expect the Lord to be in it, so the entire concept was just stupid…

…I’ve been there a few times on business, but never around Mardi Gras, nor would I. I don’t drink, so the place is kinda lost on me. The French Quarter does have some interesting architecture and weird spaces (walk through a large gate in a normal looking building and your in an OUTDOOR courtyard is one example), but people are staggering around and run into you, sometimes on purpose to pick your pocket, and there’s a rainbow section where a guy can get fag raped according to the locals, so if that’s how they NORMALLY run their city, I’ll take a full pass on the slow-motion drunken riot of a Big Head parade and stay in my hotel in Covington instead to be a lake away from the high crime area that is NOLA proper, although I WILL venture to Dragos in Metairie for the alligator nuggets and Crème Brûlé, but that, and flying back out from Louis Armstrong International are pretty much ALL I’d cross the Causeway for now…

  3. I’m not losing sleep over Mardi Gras but when are people just going to say enough already? Bureaucrats are falling all over themselves trying to see how far out they can cancel life and normalcy and now we are getting well into 2021 and it seems some Republicans are now joining in and enacting new mask policies, curfews and keeping everything locked down. Enough already, there are more of us than them and these people are not our lords.

    “Shouldn’t that be SCREECHING?”

…apparently, you’re BOTH wrong. It’s “Que les bons moments s’arrêtent brusquement” in NO Frog Talk…
