Former House Republican David Valadao reclaims central California seat

KTLA5: Republicans have picked up their 11th seat overall in the U.S. House and the third seat in California, as Republican David Valadao reclaimed the seat he lost in the farm belt two years ago.

The former congressman defeated Democratic Rep. TJ Cox, who ousted Valadao in the 21st Congressional District two years ago by 862 votes.

Valadao endorsed President Donald Trump after withholding his backing in 2016 — a risk in a swing district the president lost by 15 points four years ago.

But he also stressed his independence, criticizing the Trump administration for family separations at the border and promoting his willingness to work across party lines.

On paper, the 21st District looks like it should be a Democratic stronghold: The party holds a nearly 17-point registration edge. But California’s agricultural centers have long been known for Republican residents who vote reliably and Democrats who often do not.

Valadao proved tough to beat after he was first elected in 2012, fending off Democratic challengers by focusing on water for agriculture and other local issues. more

  1. This is yet another step towards re-taking the House, but the Repubs are still in the minority, so for at least the next session, it will not matter. Either Nancy or The Squad will be in charge and they can do whatever they want. Yes, the right will need fewer from the left to defect on votes, but if those votes never occur, it will not make any difference. The Dems will still be in charge of all of the committees and will dictate what happens.
Sorry, hate to be a downer, just telling it like it is. The positive is that the Repubs will have to flip fewer in two years to take back control Until then, we will have to keep pushing.

  2. Two things: Another R in the House (on the down ballot). After the revelations of election fraud in the contested states, every state should be audited by a third party for their use of automated voting machines (no matter whose brand; they all use the same innards).

POTUS Trump and his party should make top to bottom election reform a priority in the next 4 years. Put that woman in charge who was harrassed by all the alphabets — “True the Vote.”
