The Sun: As confusion and panic set in over the spread of the coronavirus in mid-March, Americans were forced to reckon with with shortages of toilet paper, disposable wipes, hand sanitizer and face masks.
As major producers of hand sanitizer faced a shrinking workforce and sky-high demand in the spring, one unlikely group of businesses – craft distillers – stepped up to increase the supply for panicked consumers.
Now, the Federal government is expecting distillers who rose to the occasion to alleviate the shortage pay the piper.
Tuesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration unveiled a new set of fees for organizations operating as “monograph drug facilities” producing over-the-counter drugs.
Hand sanitizer is one of those over-the-counter drugs qualifying for fee assessments by its producers – including makeshift sanitizer producers like distillers.
Now, the annual fees assessed by the Federal government are serving as the final, crushing financial woe to close out an already dismal business year for distillers. more
Good example of “no good deed goes unpunished”. I bet this teaches those greedy capitalists a lesson.
My thoughts exactly, Joe.
What is government’s infatuation with penalizing people who step up in dire circumstances to help people in need? This is reminiscent of the Cajun Navy helping during the flood. “You don’t have the proper training and certification to help save people from drowning. We would prefer that they drowned because there were not enough people with proper training and certification to rescue everybody.”
They should have just stuck to Vodka and dropped their prices by $2 a bottle and told the state to go fuck themselves unless they gave them a very specific exemption.
Hand sanitizer is fuck all compared to a little bit of bleach mixed with tap water in a $1 refillable spray bottle. $4 bucks has lasted me 3 months in my HVAC service truck.

Very good point.
A parent can not help teacher in the classroom either because they are not trained so many many kids get left behind.
I yearn for the day in which the American people finally say enough is ENOUGH! And take meaningful measures to shrink the hemorrhoid that is the federal government.
Joe6pak – very good reference.
stirrin – not going to happen until we (the people) call on our States to gather and reset the Constitution.
Jimmy I don’t disagree. Contact your senator ASAP about contesting the presidential election January 6th. We’ll deal with the bigger issues after DJT is inaugurated.
Proof that government is NOT our friend.
Calling Senators or Representatives? Speaking with a staffer or disinterested call service who gives a shit or writing a letter, in return getting a bullshit generated form letter signed with an auto pen. Both of which tell me how important my opinion is and then thanking me for participating in representative government. Then my opinion and letter is disregarded.
Senators and Representatives vote based upon what the Congressional or Senate Committees tells them to vote, other wise they are on their own come next election cycle with very few or no campaign funds. If they have a close race they are allowed to consider what their district/state political base desires and then votes accordingly.
Unless they have served a couple terms and have become “magic” millionaires like the majority of those who “serve” the people.
Cynic? More like realist, as I served 28 years in state government and numerous state-wide, District and National political campaigns.
Don’t allow me to discourage your phone call or written letter, there are times even I enjoy politicians blowing smoke up my ass.
