California woman gets drunk in Arizona…

WICKENBURG, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) – A California woman is facing several charges after police say she got drunk and stole some clothes from a store while getting completely naked in Wickenburg on Tuesday.

Police said 53-year-old Melissa Dawn Hahn ran up a $154 tab at Mecca Bar and Grill and tried to pay with a credit card but it was declined. She got angry at staff and customers, swearing at them and spitting on a man, witnesses said. She left and went to a nearby store called Cactus Flower. more

  1. Beg pardon. the link is behind a paywall.

Frank was raised in Seligman, which is an hour or so up the road. Took the bus to Prescott HS, then joined the Air Force, then joined AZ Highway patrol in 72′.

In 1980 he helped a friend by plopping a lil’ kid on his police bike and letting him play with the horns and lights. Kid dies shortly after with his wish fulfilled.

Frank decided to help the next kid. He wanted to go to Disneyland. Frank called them up and got the brush off.

Frank then went full Arizona on Disney. Called em’ back up and said he had an ARREST WARRANT for one of execs. That got their attention….and that kid had his wish fulfilled.

Anyway, 40 years and thousands of wishes later Frank has decided to let some other people make wishes come true.

Hats off, old timer. You done us all proud.

…can’t say it involved dying kids, but it was a common enough PR thing to sometimes have kids visit the firehouse and let them flip the lights on, sound the siren, or ring the bell on one of our pumpers that had a working large, chrome bell, more for looks than actual function (the sirens were MUCH louder), but was still a crowd pleaser on National Nights Out.

The best thing was to do it in the firehouse with the glass doors down, so they could see the reflections of themselves and the lights as they turned them on, and it made the siren sound truly awesome. Mom or Dad was usually just outside taking happy snaps, but it was amazing how giving a kid a plastic Jr. Firefighter helmet and a few minutes’ seat time in a backup piece of equipment would give them a smile they probably needed surgery to remove.

I don’t know how many went on to be firefighters or medics, but they sure were entertaining the idea at the time something FIERCE.

I would guess it’s that much more poignant for a dying child. While they may have a limited hope of having ANY future, let alone a physically healthy one, seems like they’ve seen so much of the world from the BACK of ambulance that they just may appreciate the view from the FRONT that much more…

  4. Frank was an international hero. The Make a Wish Foundation he created is worldwide now.

Just figured I’d mention him during Lent since MY Pope. JP2 AKA THE SUPER POPE got all squinchy eyed at us in the 90’s. Said we was making Lent about ourselves. So he said, “quit givin’ up stupid junk and give of yourself instead”.

I ain’t the boss of Catholic town, I just work there part time. But the MFCEO of Catholics Inc. said to do it so here I is encouraging others to give of themselves the way ol’ Frank did.

Look at me clearing Arizonas good name and promoting altruistic giving. 2 birds with one stone. That oughta’ count double points in St. Peters ledger.
