Chicago Faces Increase In Carjackings; Legislator Seeks To Ban “Grand Theft Auto”

Jonathan Turley:

My home city of Chicago continues to reel from soaring crime rates. Among the categories of increasing crime is a 135% spike in carjackings.  One would think that the legislators would be focused on better policing and other programs. Rep. Marcus Evans Jr. (D, Chicago) however wants to ban video games like “Grand Theft Auto” which depict “motor vehicle theft with a driver or passenger present.” While it would not likely make a dent in carjackings, it would curtail free speech and individual choice.

Owning a car in Chicago has become increasingly difficult. I have one close relative in Chicago who sold his car because it became simply too expensive to continually replace tires and other items regularly stolen in broad daylight. Cars are stripped on city streets by gangs that drive around harvesting sellable items or just stealing entire cars. The solution for many is to simply not have a car. read more

  1. Too bad, back in the day, when someone tried to steal your horse, (your mode of transportation), you could simply kill the son-of-a-bitch and be on your way. It was a good deterrent.

  2. Add to the fact that Chicago has just today rescinded the requirement to post bail! I say Chicago even though it’s a state law, because we all know the rest of the state has no voice in this buffoonery! Now they won’t even have to show up for court to get a slap on the wrist by some left bent judge! It’s a culture of lawlessness and corruption in Illinois… The wife and I are gone as soon as our elderly parents pass, and the estates are settled… Going to try and find a 2A friendly state with some common sense!

  3. GTA’s not even set in Chicago. I’m a San Andreas man myself, but I get why people like Vice City and Las Venturas.

And if you wanted less crime….wouldn’t you want people indoors playing video games instead of being bored…and then committing crimes?

  4. J.Conners, did you check out the video that Brad posted? That is what I was referring to. It’s kind of funny if you haven’t. I’m not enough of a gun connoisseur to really discuss the intricacies of various calibers or loads, but I can recognize humor when I see it.

  5. If I had to bet my life it was my Sig 226 9mm.
If I had to pick the most versatile my S&W 686.
If I had to pick a sentimental fav. my Colt Combat Elite.
If I has to pick the most durable, A Glock. (never owned one)

Don’t own any. I’m all archery now.

Canuckistan – To much paperwork etc. unfortunately.

I love ya my Canuk bro.But the truth is.

226 is a double action gun with the first trigger pull at 12 pounds. A throw away shot. I own one. Not conducive for winning a gunfight.

Colt Combat Elite. It’s a Colt. It will stove pipe every other shot. Buy a Les Baer.

686 is a wheel gun. Just no. You will die.

Glock. Watch my attached video. I carry a Glock most the time. If I go on VaCa, I’ll carry a 1911 because they’re just to cool. I’m hoping you get your gun rights back soon.

I spent a winter working in Ontario a few years ago. I got to know a guy who’s wife was an OPP officer. Even she had to leave her gun locked up at the station when not on duty.

Not sure about crime up there, but I drove past a wolf one the highway one day, and that thing didn’t give a single fuck about me and my SUV. Archery wouldn’t cut it for me!

  8. Before I allowed my son to buy a copy of Grand Theft Auto I sat him down for the TALK.
Son. You can play this evil game, but you need to promise me you will NEVER steal a helicopter and throw hand grenades at people in the city.
    He’s a good boy.
    So far no incidents.
