Many Americans Will Have a Ralphie-Ovaltine Moment, and I Won’t Feel for Them

Diogenes’ Middle Finger:

In many homes across the country the classic movie “A Christmas Story” is a holiday staple.  In this perfect little movie, Ralphie has several loss-of-youthful-innocence moments. One of the most poignant is his effort to decode a message to save radio heroine Little Orphan Annie. Ralphie eagerly awaited his special decoder rings arrival in the mail. This is important stuff!  He finally receives the decoder package and rushes off to sit in privacy and decode.  The narrator recounts the tension building as he deciphers. That’s until the whole message is clear.  A stunned Ralphie realizes he’s been duped. It’s another bittersweet moment where he is yanked into the sphere of mature knowledge.

For some Americans, their Ralphie-Ovaltine moment is coming.*   I don’t think it’s funny. I don’t envy them.  At some point, these Ralphies will be engaged, perhaps feverishly, with recollecting a lingering aspect of the chaos of the years of this present presidency, one they voted for in the belief he was their legally elected savior, and it’ll hit them. more

  1. Ovaltine moment are like the plague here in California right now. The combination of Biden and Newsom has some heads spinning. I walked past one of the more notorious Libtards at the gym a couple days ago right when he was telling one of his buddies that he thinks him and his wife our going to move out of Cali. I slammed on the brakes and told him, be sure you move to a Blue State. You could literally see the depression set in. Stupid people.

  2. I learned as a “youngster” that voting for someone because you hated the opponent for no good reason other than the adults around you hated that person could lead to a national tragedy of immense proportions–I’m talking about Nixon and how my votes in ’72 (my very first vote as an “adult”) and in ’76 led to the disaster known as Jimmy Carter. I’m glad I learned not to repeat that mistake in ’80 and vote again for Mr. Peanut.
I know plenty of people who voted against Trump because of a similar hatred.
They better hope for some vaseline when the inevitable remorse sets in.

  3. Even if the left is capable of an Ovaltine moment, good luck getting them to admit it. To do so would force them to be truthful about themselves. And since most democrats live in a delusional, self-congratulatory bubble, admitting their mistake would be a devastating – near death – blow.

  4. It’s a toss up.
Will it be an Ovaltine moment?
Or, more likely, the moment a tiny red-hot little flame begins to grow in Ralphie and he beats the crap out of the neighborhood bully?
I’d pay money to see the beat down the bullies are gonna get. We need Steve Inman to narrate.

  5. Great movie, never gets old. The best scene is after Ralphie realizes he has been duped & says “an advertisement?” “Son of a bitch!” I get the feeling that those who voted for Biden might be saying the same thing. Without “an advertisement?” Of course!

  6. What a classic American movie!
And for that, I foresee a future with no all-day marathons of Christmas Story, for fear of triggering the CHILDREN because walphie wants a wifle.

  7. Five will get you ten, A CHRISTMAS STORY will get Seuss’ed because of the BB gun. When that canary dies in the coal mine of America, we might as well all pack it in.

    Good times.
