Chicago humane society touts program that deploys feral cats for ‘rat combat’.

Just The News:
An animal humane society in Chicago this week touted its anti-rat program that has deployed hundreds and hundreds of feral cats over the years to combat the city’s allegedly out-of-control vermin problem.&

Multiple media outlets this week reported that the Tree House Humane Society in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood had released 1,000 feral cats into the city “to combat a rat crisis,” as the Guardian put it.

On its website, the humane society clarified that its “Cats at Work” program was not releasing 1,000 cats “all at once.”  more here

    Perhaps she’ll die.

    There was an old lady who swallowed a bird;
How absurd, to swallow a bird!
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wiggled and wiggled and tickled inside her.

  2. Jussie Smollett has been attacked by two White Colored Guys named Feral wearing MAGA hats and carrying a noose and bleach? Just wait until Kalamity gets this news. She will be issuing a strongly worded kackle shortly.

  3. Well isn’t this super.

The libshit “humane society” is releasing cats to starve, freeze, get hit by cars, be abused, scrap for pickings (hoped-to-be rats but say bye to a lot of birds) in a city (not rural animal-friendly) environment… breed too (or will they be fixed)?

All to catch other little furry creatures who are a problem only because of the plague of people and their dirty detritus crapped into an unnaturally dense population area…

  4. But what if the rat doesn’t identify as a rat? What if it identifies as an oppossum or a raccoon? What if the rat is gay? What if the rat belongs to a disenfranchised minority? Certainly the straight male Norwegian rats (the majoritiy species in the United States) deserve to be hunted down and eaten, but what about all the others who are oppressed by them? Can we with a clear conscience add to their suffering and despair?

  5. If I spot one, I’m bringing it home to live in luxury with me and my 3 other cars on the 8th floor. Feral is no way to live and I have resigned myself to crazy cat lady status.

  6. You seen an urban rat?
Unless these feral cats are the size of bobcats, they ain’t got a chance.

We tried a cat (huge yellow tom) in the steam tunnel of the Longworth Building back in the 80s – the rats ate him.

    izlamo delenda est …

  7. Nothing said about the cats being spayed/neutered before release. And therefore adding to the city’s wild kritter problems.

  8. You know how we always point to places that tried (and are still trying) communism and how it has failed? Well, I am going to point to the state of Hawaii. They did import mongoose to take care of the rats and since they have different sleep cycles, the islands still have tons of rats and mongoose (who happily ate all the ground nesting birds). The islands are also overrun with feral cats (and chickens) and STILL there are sewer rats everywhere. I know this as a fact since we co-existed with them when we lived there. It was a never-ending battle (20+ inches from nose to tip of tail). Good luck Chicago–you will be overrun with cats, rats, and other vermin.

  9. As long as they’ve been fixed so they can’t breed, there’s nothing bad about some feral cats about, they do control rodents.

Too many of them and they control birds too.

In any event, feral cats usually don’t have long lives so the numbers reduce themselves rapidly when you quit introducing more of them.

However, it has to be kept in mind that cats are evil and will find a way around it if there is any way they can (and probably a way that was never considered before it happened).

  10. I saw that episode of The Simpsons!

NEXT, they release the anacondas, to eat the excess cats – then they release the gorillas, to deal with the anacondas – then they release the lions, to deal with the gorillas – then they release… 🙄
