Ready for blackouts here in the Pacific Northwest? Because they’re coming.
Forecasts by the Northwest Regional Power Planning agency put the likelihood of blackouts at one chance in three by 2023…better odds than you find at Spirit Mountain or Aliana.
An alert today reminded me of this. California’s power “system operator” has put out a “flex alert”. No, that doesn’t mean your morning stretches.
It says from 4pm to 9pm, today…all electric customers should set the air conditioning at, quote “78 or higher”, avoid using all major appliances and even turn off all the lights you don’t need. Sweating in the dark. Should make dinner time interesting. more here

But, we will still be able to drive our mandated plug-in electric cars, right? Right?
“HOCUS-POCUS”! I’ve heard of them. Actually saw them in concert. Discovered you need to speak German to understand the lyrics.
For those with an electric car; just buy yourself a 20,000 watt generator that your neighbors can listen to while your vehicle is being charged over night.
“Gentlemen, charge your cars”
Oh wait… the grid’s down!
Dammit! I was thinking of Focus and confused with Krocus. Socks getting old.
‘Headhunter’?
Also sucks getting a new phone and not being able to find the settings to bypass auto correct.
NV Energy recently put our county on the PSOM list for winds more than 40mph, which is a ‘calm’ day year round for living in the open area. (It is like Christmas in the yard some mornings after 60mph+ winds.) Yep, shopping for dual fuel generators this coming weekend.
Green is mean!

Here in North Idaho we’re pretty much all hydro. Very reliable. And cheap. 6.5 cents kwhr.
NIdahoCatholic – The Greenies say that even Hydro is not green!
Why they gotta be called “black” outs?
A bad thing, right?
That sounds racist and shit, yo!

What did California residents use for light before candles? Electricity.
Sit in the dark and sweat. Yup, sure sounds like progress to me in the richest, most advanced country on the planet. Way to go, California. Way to go.
Can’t very well have a socialist country without blackouts.
Amusingly, I’m part of that generation that listened to both Krokus and Focus, and owned a 9v battery powered “Transistor Radio” that would play for hours… Go figure.
