Southwest drops plan to put un-vaccinated staff on unpaid leave starting in December

CNBC: Southwest Airlines has scrapped a plan to put unvaccinated employees who have applied for but haven’t received a religious or medical exemption on unpaid leave starting by a federal deadline in December.

Southwest Airlines and American Airlines are among the carriers that are federal contractors and subject to a Biden administration requirement that their employees are vaccinated against Covid-19 by Dec. 8 unless they are exempt for medical or religious reasons. Rules for federal contractors are stricter than those expected for large companies, which will allow for regular Covid testing as an alterative to a vaccination.

Executives at both carriers in recent days have tried to reassure employees about job security under the mandate, urging them to apply for exemptions if they can’t get vaccinated for medical or for a sincerely held religious belief. The airlines are expected to face more questions about the mandate when they report quarterly results Thursday morning. Pilots labor unions have sought to block the mandates or sought alternatives like regular testing. more here

  1. The airlines should just lie like members of the Biden Administration do (I’m looking at you, Buttigieg). “Our employees are 150% vaccinated, and we have the documentation around here somewhere if Trump hasn’t stolen it yet.”

  2. This isn’t much of a win.
The way I read this is that employees will still get canned when their exemption requests are denied, and most probably will.
Also – anyone who just doesn’t want the damned experimental genetic modifying chemical concoction will still be terminated.
    Please tell me I’m wrong.

  3. I’m beginning to think that some of these companies are using Brandon’s fake vax mandate as an excuse to fire some of their long time employees and replace them with cheaper help.

  4. What happens if a bunch of these companies just tell Brandon where he can put his mandate? They can’t stop working with everybody.

…and if they did, then maybe we can get a handle on the budget deficit.

  5. I like my money. I only ever spend money at places that haven’t pissed me off by the way they treat me and others. Never spent a dime anywhere once I’m pissed. Don’t have a problem with anyone as long as they are treated the same as me and not worse or better. I think I am of the same mindset as many. Gay with pink, green, blue or all three colors of hair? Don’t care. You are to be treated the same as me. If you’re treated worse than me I’m going to be your allie. Treated better than me I’ll be an enemy. Don’t like anything but fairness. Those corporations and their operational idiots need to understand how things work. I do believe that’s the way thing’s should be.

  6. Have been a “Dbl. Dbl Animal” man for decades. Today I will have 2 for lunch to honor the company that stands tall for Ameria!

As Ronny said over a thousand times from 1940 to 198 “FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!”!
That what an American is all about!

  7. an ol exjarhead, not having ever been to a In-N-Out, I assume two possibilities that a Dbl. Dbl Animal is either a burger order or double shots of alcohol and your description. I’ve seen enough comments here I could be correct either way.

  8. A company which concurred with the gov’t sentencing its employees to death (under completely false pretenses – NO Executive Order – NO FDA Approval – NO Pandemic) will do so again when its ducks are better aligned.

The officials of Southwest have proven themselves to be dangerous, arrogant, tyrannical, and disingenuous.

If the employees can leave, they should do so.

    mortem tyrannis.

    izlamo delenda est …
