Just The News: Refusing to ask patrons if they got the COVID-19 shots or to show a negative test in order to eat in, the popular California-based burger chain In-N-Out is taking a stand — and paying for it. But the company may have a new place to call home, if it takes up an offer from the state of Florida.
If the besieged fast-food chain were to leave, it would follow Elon Musk’s recently decamped Tesla in a growing exodus of companies from a Golden State that has lost its luster for many business owners.
Currently, three Bay Area health jurisdictions — San Francisco County, Contra Costa County and the city of Berkeley — are requiring restaurants to screen customers for on-site indoor dining by either showing proof of a negative COVID test or of COVID vaccination status.
The popular fast food chain has refused to comply with screening.
Its chief legal and business officer, Arnie Wensinger, said In-N-Out’s policy was to “properly and clearly” post signs outlining the state’s vaccine mandate for indoor diners. But it was not going to act as “the vaccination police for any government.” more here

Gov. DeSantis is my pick for the 2024 (if we get there) nominee. He is a state governor that I would gladly have. My state’s governor is not far behind (MO).
There were very few things I found that I missed when we moved from CA to FL in 2012, and In-N-Out was one of them. I’d be delighted to have one somewhere in Sarasota County. The In-N-Out nearest to me right now is in Texas, damnit!
There’s whining local stories that King County restaurants have reported a 50% loss in business since Inslee’s vax mandate went into effect. People are driving to other countries to eat in and not be asked their vax status.
(and they always end the stories with a quote from a owner/hostess/server saying it’s important to get the vaccinated so we can get back to normal.)
I’m sure that’s temporary. Inslee will sling a vaxxed mandate for the whole state soon I’d bet.
Why should a fast food place be required to have a bouncer at the door??? Maybe the state should post one outside and pay the expen$e. I wouldn’t want to have to confront unhappy crazys wandering in from god knows where or in what condition, or state of mind.
Ilustr8r, we haven’t had that problem in Eastern Washington yet. My biggest gripe is having to wear frigging mask when I go into the lobby of a fast food restaurant if it’s even open because of a staff shortage. The drive thru’s have ginormous lines at times which is a pain in the ass to have to wait for so long a line to get your food. Idaho generally doesn’t have this problem although the Wendy’s in Sandpoint, Idaho was incredibly slow on Sunday inside their open lobby when I stopped there for lunch due to a working staff shortage.
@Geoff Many restaurants over here have staffing issues and have shorter hours and/or closed on certain days.
I’m going to become a food truck aficionado if Inslee unleashes max vax.
Inslee will find a way to ban food trucks as well. Then we’ll have to seek them out like illegal bootleggers in a dark alley somewhere and only for a few minutes until they’re forced to move elsewhere before some of Inslee’s goons find out about their illegal food truck operations. Uncle Al, run up to The Shake Pit on Manatee Ave ( hwy64) in Bradenton. I have not eaten at In and Out, but have been enjoying this place since the late 60s. Just be careful because it is family owned and occasionally they close without warning.
