Elon Musk says he is willing to spend $6 billion to fight world hunger, if the UN World Food Program publicly publishes current and proposed spending in detail

CNBC– Elon Musk is now worth more than $300 billion, and he’s apparently ready to start spending.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO — whose net worth has ballooned by more than $140 billion this year, thanks largely to the skyrocketing value of his electric automaker — tweeted Sunday that he was willing to consider a proposal from a United Nations official who said that a $6 billion donation from one of the world’s wealthiest people could help stop world hunger.

Last week, David Beasley, the director of the UN’s World Food Programme, told CNN that it was time for the ultra-wealthy to “step up now, on a one-time basis” in order to “help 42 million people that are literally going to die if we don’t reach them.” He specifically mentioned Musk and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the two richest men in the world.

On Sunday, Musk replied to a Twitter user who pointed out that $6 billion would be just 2% of his net worth. Musk said that if the WFP could describe “exactly” how the donation would solve world hunger, he would “sell Tesla stock right now and do it.”

In a follow-up tweet, Musk added that the UN’s plan must include “open source accounting, so the public sees precisely how the money is spent.” more here

  1. $6 Billion to the UN….let’s see, the first Billion is skimmed right off the top to that freak that is the UN Chair. Then $2 Billion is given to the local governing bodies to have them allow the alleged program. Then 2.99999 Billion to all the corrupt heads of the UN and finally, $100,000 in spoiled rice and grain, bought from a corrupt Russian Billionaire and given to the starving people of the world.

Then next year, they come back to the US and ask for $12 BILLION because the $6 did not do anything…..don’t believe me, look up California transportation taxes and see how this works……just trade UNIONS for the UN!

Not if the United Nations has anything whatsoever to do with it.

  3. BEG,
That’s what Musk is after, transparency and accountability so that “lining pockets” does not occur.
In the same article (only slightly OT), “In a separate tweet, Musk shared a link to a 2015 Express report alleging that UN peacekeepers were sexually abusing children in the Central African Republic in 2014, adding the comment “What happened here?””

Musk is on to the UN’s shenannigans, and is tweaking their nose.

  4. “I have never understood why it is “greed” to want to keep the money you have earned but not greed to want to take somebody else’s money.”
    -Thomas Sowell

All Musk wants is accountability and because he knows there will be none he’ll politely decline and be immediately denounced.

  5. Gee Wally, imagine if all those rich Elites that flock to Prestwick Airport chipped in like Musk?
We could make the Climate Change issue disappear without taxing the shit out of everybody!

Accountability is Kryptonite to bureaucrats, politicians and the grifters they surround themselves with. Accountability would seriously hamper their collecting mansions, Rolex, Vacheron Constantine, Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe watches, yachts, vacation homes and stocking commercial freezers with boutique ice cream.

I would also seriously hamper their family’s access to hookers, cocaine and all expense paid globe trotting.

  7. Maybe the US government should stop paying US farmers to not grow crops on their land. Where I live, most of the fields that used to be filled with rice crops are sitting idle because the government pays farmers to not plant the rice.

  8. If Musk doubles down and does this re the “Climate Change” massive theft and corruption, I would respect him enough to buy a Tesla!

(Just like him, I don’t expect this to happen, so I don’t expect to be buying a Tesla. But I am a man of my word so DO IT, Mr Musk.)
