Boy Scouts Announce New Critical Race Theory Requirement

Federalist-

Those who hope to find a place that’ll encourage the virtuous masculinity that so often finds itself the target of our mainstream culture have been left with a dwindling set of options.

My family intended to guide my formation as a young man and instill traditional values when they put me in Cub Scouts in the first grade, supporting me all the way until I earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 2018. It worked.

The time I spent in Scouting certainly contributed to my sense of what is required of me as a man; to act on the moral duty I have to our nation, be capable of self-reliance, abide by the virtues that I believe come from a divine origin, and attain the skills that are needed to care and provide for those around me.

Despite the role scouting has had in my life, I’ve found myself coming ever closer to recanting the resounding “yes” I offered to my Scoutmaster when, at the very end of my interview leading up to earning my Eagle Scout, he asked me if I thought I’d one day want to put my sons in what still could then be accurately called the Boy Scouts of America.

I find myself similarly concerned for my younger brother who is currently active in the troop I was once a part of as the organization continuously bends to a culture that has grown increasingly hostile to its original mission.  more

  1. Do they still call themselves Boy Scouts? I saw them selling cookies awhile back in front of a store(have they always sold cookies? I thought that was a girl scout thing), but out of the five only 2 were boys, the other 3 were girls.

I did a double take and yes the sign said boy scouts, the uniforms looked like boy scout uniforms.

  2. BSA has a phenomenal program, straight from Baden-Powell – but they are royally f’ing it up now. I am fine with including the girls – no reason to withhold a great youth development program from them as long as there is reasonable separation. But this new merit badge may do it for me. I still haven’t seen the requirements, and it isn’t Eagle required – yet.

Okay I just found it. It will be Eagle-required next year. Here are the requirements: http://usscouts.org/usscouts/mb/Citizenship-in-Society.asp

I’ll put it this way: If I were the counselor I think I could guide them through this in a reasonable way, give them growth and appreciation for differences while still being able to ‘judge people based upon the content of their character’. But if someone else, say a Loudon School Board member or Talcum X, were the counselor, well, I wouldn’t let any kids I cared for near them.

Girl Scouts has been going through this in recent years, I think BSA is now catching up. Ugh. And I don’t know that I will continue.

  3. IMO, scouting’s big mistake was their symbiotic relationship with churches. When the churches started going left, the scouts went with them. My scout troop in the 70’s was sponsored by the Unitarian church. What a pedo shitshow that turned out to be.

I tried giving scouting a go with my boys, but we eventually bailed for many reasons. I am aftaid scouting has dold out to progressivism,

  5. LCD, it’s clear your heart is in the right place and the Boy Scouts have been important to you. It must be difficult for you, and all of us, to see what is happening to the organizations that we have all grown up with that have been crucial in our development as responsible adults. Things are fucked up as hell!

  6. @Brad – because they don’t have firearms? 🙂
I don’t get into stupid trouble. But I will rile up some people. And I will find people whose principles are closer to mine.

  7. @Brad – I am visiting CA right now, Monday night will go to what may be my last meeting with the Santa Monica troop. I might go on a couple of summer high adventure trips. But if they embrace this garbage – and it is a toss-up with this troop – I don’t see continuing.
When I was in the troop we were legendary. The only BSA troop in history to go to a national jamboree and win every competition, only 10 years after being formed (and then BSA asked us not to compete again). Great memories, at least.

  8. I was a tenderfoot when the scout master introduced us to PBR…. I did not make it past tenderfoot… fun while it lasted.
