30 years after the Soviet Union’s collapse, we still fight tyranny

Post Millennial: This Christmas marks the 30th anniversary of the end of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, which dissolved into 15 independent states on December 25, 1991. This ended the Cold War that had existed for over 40 years between the United States and the Soviet Union, along with their respective allies around the globe.

Czar Nicholas II was dethroned in 1917, ending the Romanov dynasty that had governed Russia for over 300 years. Vladimir Lenin and his Bolsheviks (“Ones of the Majority”) emerged as victors of the Russian Civil War. Russian communists, along with communists in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Belarus, formed the Soviet Union in December 1922. Communist ideology reigned supreme for the next 69 years. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and other countries were forcibly incorporated into the Soviet Union. The communists invaded Hungary (1956) and Czechoslovakia (1968) and violently suppressed peaceful protests in East Germany (1953) thus ensuring that these countries would not leave the Soviet Bloc in pursuit of freedom, democracy, and human rights. more

  1. Communism has never been done right before. So says the old socialist from Vermont who has never held a real job and now owns three houses. Along with the former bartender, now Congress critter, from New York who demonstrates her complete cluelessness almost daily on Twitter. And a career politician born in Somalia and is one of the America’s leading anti-semites. And the other avowed anti-semite from Michigan who has also always been a career politician. There seems be be a pattern here – people who can’t do anything useful except to try to force their bone-headed beliefs on America are the biggest proponents of a totalitarian government.

I normally don’t like to generalize, but anyone who supports these folks is a complete idiot. I would like to think that ultimately, these supporters will suffer for enabling this evil, but so will the rest of America as well.

  2. P.J. O’Rourke covered why this is, and why it ever shall be, pretty well many years ago.

In reference to the Berlin Wall falling, he said:

“I remember thinking, “I feel like a weight has been lifted…”
A wiser person would have been thinking, “I feel like I took a big dump.” Nastiness was already reaccumulating.”
-P.J. O’Rourke, “Thrown Under The Omnibus”

…the point being that dealing with evil isn’t a one-shot proposition. Due to Man’s sin nature and the desire of large numbers of people who can’t function unless someone else tells them what to do, evil just bides its time and waits for another opportunity and a new generation, for it is the doom of Men that they forget, and the curse of youth to think they already know better than their elders…

…consider the turn just between the first book in the Bible, Genesis, and the second, Exodus.

Genesis ends with an Israeli, Joseph, second in Egypt only to Pharoh and all Israel invited to live in peace in Egypt as free people, which they eagerly accept. Everything is GREAT!

    …then we turn the page…

…to the beginning of Exodus, where, after some geneology no one ever reads, we come to this…

“Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.”
    Exodus 1:8

    Uh Oh.

The younger generation takes over, who has no memory of the miracles of Joseph’s God, knows nothing about how an Israeli once saved Egypt from famine, he only wants power and sees them as a pot

  3. ^^^ that was me. Had to post before a cat video lock-up.

…anyways, he only wants power and sees them as a potential threat.

So what’s he decide to do?

    …well…

“9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:

10 Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.

11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.

13 And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:

14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.”
    Exodus 1:9-14

    …and so it ever goes.

Evil is ambitious and patient, and good always forgets.

So we have to purge every now and again….

  4. …or, if you prefer Tolkien…

‘“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”’

J.R.R. Tolkien – The Fellowship of The Ring

Evil always comes back, and will until the Lord comes back instead. Man cannot rule well for long, he always turns to evil in time.

    Always.

And it’s always the task of OTHER men to bleed and die to rid the current tyranny when it pops up again.

    Guess what?

    It’s OUR turn.

…evil will arise again, but that doesn’t mean we leave it fester now. Again, Tolkien puts it better than I…

‘It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succor of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till,” he said. “What weather they shall have is not ours to rule.’
-J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Return of the King”

So it is. Evil triumphs when good men do nothing.

    …as you may have noticed…
